I checked out the recipe and your comments and have to say I don't think you're being fair ...You admit you didn't follow instructions by using a bundt pan... .Your comment here may make some not even bother to check it out when if fact, it may work following the instructions of using a muffin tin....Know what I'm trying to say?

The recipe was set up for cupcakes but you know that already. The batter in a larger mass like a bundt pan will take longer to cook; 50 to 60 minutes in my experience.
Was your cake mix past the expiration date? Old leavening ingredients tend not to activate very well. Did your cake mix have a pudding mix already in it? The recipe did not call for a cake mix with pudding mix. If the mix did have pudding mix in it then it would explain the denseness you experienced.

I think it should have been done as directed to be fair!

Fair or not it was an honest opinion and a plea for help. Instead of criticizing could we try to help by suggesting remedial action. Anyone who would be curious about this recipe would have to go to the recipe page and there see the litany of good responses and only one bad response. Do you think anyone would believe the recipe is screwed up on the preponderance of the replies?

I think the comment is fair, but Lillian, if you actually rated it low, I'd say that would be unfair cus you didn't rate the recipe...but the comments are fine...now others will know...don't make it in the bundt pan ;)

Doesn't sound at all my thing, so I won't try it....but that's not cus of a "bad" comment...that's cus it's chocolate and low fat...hehe

My review wasn't meant to blame the recipe. I was stating,"not to use a bundt pan", because it doesn't work for this recipe. I would hope that members would read my entire review.

Thank you Points, for trying to help me figure it out. The cake mix didn't have pudding in it and it wasn't expired. The pumpkin was a fresh can. I really think it just can't be done in a bundt pan. But at least I tried. :)

I never thought for one moment that you were doing anything but what you do Lilliancooks, and that is try recipes and talk about them....And I, for one, appreciate that you do.......I just responded to your comment.....Isn't that what this group is about?....I read "This was a disaster for me" and after going to the page found out you had not made it the way it should have been made....That's all, nothing more........And I am sorry Points, if you think my intention was to criticize Lilliancook, as it wasn't......My intention was to bring to others attention that it may have not been the recipe that was a disaster but maybe the way Lillliancooks prepared it......in a bundt pan, just like she was trying to get across to others....Nothing more.

Hey Lillian, I just wanted to let you know that my mom makes this with the spice cake mix and she always puts it in a 9x13 pan and it always turns out great. I guess it just doesnt work in a bundt pan, so now we know! You live and you learn, right? :)

Thanks MW! I think your right. The spice one would probably be better and definitely in a muffin or small cake pan.

I really try to be honest in my comments on recipes I make, to hopefully make it easier for the next person who tries it. Its only "my" opinion, but I know opinions of others have helped me when I make recipes. Thank you to everyone who understands this. :)

By the way...after I made the recipe, I rated it a "3"...the taste was pretty good, but not enough for me to make it again.

A 3 is a fair rating for the recipe on taste, that you wouldn't make again, Lillian...there's no way to tell, I don't think, what the ratings are unless their a 4 or a 5. :)

I'm with you on the honesty thing, of course, too.. I've decided I'll make my comments honestly, like you did, and list any changes I made or recommend...if I made the recipe very close to the original, I'll rate it as such...if I changed it too much, I just won't rate it at all, and leave it at a comment...there's no right or wrong, at all, and everyone is right...opinions are what this is all about!

I've got some recipes from others on the table for today....or at least, they WILL be on the table, so I should be able to get back into the race, soon. hehehe

I think it is fair that you rated the recipe a 3 if it was based on taste. I'd rather someone rated something a 3 after they actually made a recipe than rate something a 5 because it "looks good." I get so tired of going to the New Today recipes and seeing every cotton pickin' one rated a 5. Frankly, I think it's boring. And that's my opinion! :D

I think its sweet of members to say" I'm giving your recipe a 5 because it sounds great!" I think thats just the way its done here. But I hope if they make the recipe they remember to comment on it so that we can all see what they think. I know it really helps me to see what others did with a recipe before I try it.

Thank you Frankie. Its always good to see that others want to see the recipes actually being made and not just talked about.

So please keep posting the recipes you've made here so we can see what your opinion is on these recipes! :)
