Thinkin' bout Thursday!

Good Morning everyone! I have a Dentist appointment this morning....no need to cringe....it's just for a cleaning! :) I'm going to drive Jim to the Park n' Ride and he'll take the bus into work and then I'll have the car to drive to the Dentist with and run some errands. Touched base with my Girlfriend and we're going to meet up for lunch. May go for a short Costco run. Found a couple of Chapter's (Bookstore) Gift cards in the drawers while I was searching for that Birth Certificate so may go treat myself! :)
It's another very, very cold day here. No idea what to make for dinner. May just grab some pre-made Indian Food at the Indian Grocery. Jim is going to attempt to head in to work for the first time this week. Not sure what shape he'll be in by the time he gets home tonight! But there's a Sens Game on tonight and that's bound to give him some life! :)
Tina....please keep us tuned about Fred. Sending him 'soft' wishes today. How did the Onion Jam in the crockpot turn out? And now what do you do with said onion jam? (I've never had any)
Marie...what 'cha up to? We haven't seen you for a few days! Michelle, sending good ODD thoughts your way for a calmer, quieter week.
Laurie, how did the cupcakes and your WW meeting turn out?
Laura, that's so excellent you are bringing those documents and putting them in a safety deposit box. Storing them in the cloud is also a good idea. How was the Elephant Bar?
Joce, how did the Shepherd's Pie turn out?
Did you get your Rice Krispies and bananas last night Lori? :)
Make it a good one everybody! One more day 'til the weekend!

Good morning Janet! I've been busy helping do "garage door stuff" ....Had to take a trip to Sac once again, helping with bids, end of the year tax stuff, etc:) Using my brain and now it hurts..LOL! How fun!! Going to the dentist today:) At least it's just to clean your teeth! Have a great day:)
I haven't been able to catch up..sure hope everyone is well and happy...

Tina, how is Fred doing? Hope everything is going good for you 2:)

I'm thinking chicken enchiladas for dinner.

    Hello to everyone!

Good morning. Since you asked, the Elephant Bar was okay. They have a try to hard thing going on back in the kitchen. The Macau Shrimp & Noodle Soup was terribly over crowded so spoiled the broth. It was done more for eye appeal and less for edibility. The Tempura Salmon Rolls were tasty. I should have paid more attention to the keyword "Tempura" as I was surprised to find them fried. But just lightly so. No Wi-Fi but the pots of hot tea were very welcome. Not likely to go back but no real complaints.

Janet, Have a fun day gadding around and I hope Jim is really feeling better today but as you say he can look forward to a game tonight. Enjoy your lunch and LOL I could easily spend a whole day in Chapters as well as Costco. The Shepard's pie was really good thanks for asking. A nice comfort food for a cold winter's day.

Marie, Try and take some time away from work and maybe relax. Chicken enchilada’s sound soo good! One of these days I am going to try and make them.

Tina, What on earth are they going to do to help poor Fred? They just have to do something for the poor man REALLY!!! Do you have Medic Alert bracelets there? We have them and if you are wearing one it states on the back all allergy's or conditions the person has and is linked to a numbered file so Medics, Pharmacists,Doctors and Emergency people can access in case of an emergency 24/7. I know it is a free service here other than buying the bracelet but I don't know how things work down there? It would be a good idea for all three of you if they do. At the very least Liv should carry a card in her purse listing all the things she is allergic etc. and all the contact people stuff. Here is a site I found for the US. http://www.medicalert.org/
Gee you have had a time of it lately!!! I am dearly hoping things can settle down soon for you!!! (((Hugs))

Laura, Your lunch pic looks absolutely lovely and enticing! Too bad it didn't live up to your expectations. Oh well live and learn.

I think I am going to make Wiener Schnitzel for dinner and serve it with creamy buttery herb egg noodles and a veggie of some sort. It is bright and sunny again but cold again I will probably stay in again today as we are supposed to get some relief from the cold tomorrow. Dusting should be on my agenda again today! What an never ending battle it is for sure!

    Good Morning!

LOL Janet...I love the igloo!!! :) Sunny and low 30s here. They are now calling for us to possibly get an ice storm tomorrow!! Ummm...Mother Nature...or Old Man Winter...I believe my wish was for a SNOW storm, not an ICE storm...lol. Advisory starts at 1 AM and ends at 7PM tomorrow. I was all excited for it, cause that might mean no work...but...Bryan doesn't get off work until 7 AM. Enjoy your day running around, and don't FREEZE! Pre-made food sounds like a good idea...Pre-made Indian food...well...just make your broccoli face for me. lol I ened up with PB & J last night. Slicing a banana seemed like an awful lot of effort. (I am getting lazy in my old age). Hope Jim makes it through the day ok. GO SENS!!!!!!

Hey Marie! Been wondering what you were up to. How's Mom and Dad? And GMTA!!
I have been thinking it's high time for a batch of
    Creamy Cheesey Chicken Enchiladas#
    How do you make them?
How are your Mom and Dad doing?

Aw Laura...kind of a bummer when you go someplace new and it's just ok. But, you never know until you try. Glad you enjoyed the salmon rolls anyway.

Hi Joce! I hear ya on the dusting. Never ending. I've still never had weiner schnitzel, but it sounds good. I have to google it every time you mention it. CRAFT is a terrible thing. lol

Bryan working tonight. Just a wait and see for me for dinner. I'm already thinking about macaroni and tomatoes...lol But you never know...

HEY to all not here yet! Have a great day!

Ouch on the Ice storm coming your way LorI! Drive carefully if you have to go out tomorrow at all. I am sure you would love Wiener schnitzel. It is just a pounded pork tenderloin dipped in either milk or an egg mixture and then in bread crumbs and fried in either a bit of oil or butter for a few minutes a side and voila it is done all crispy and juicy Yum! Now you have me going again on macaroni and tomatoes. Den doesn't care for it but I can sure make a piggy of myself on it MMM!!! One of my fav's:)

oh good gravy. So much for hoping to be off if we get an ice storm. *rolling eyes* DL just sent an email asking for directions to our houses, and she will be "happy" to come and get us because she's had good luck with this kind of weather in her truck. (2 years ago when we had snow we were closed, or we could be off if we couldn't get there, and she had her truck then!). I'd rather take my chances in my car. lol

LOL Lori, She is a work of art that one! Would she drive everyone home too? I would take her up on the offer just to save gas and who knows it might take longer if she is driving and you might get in later for work? Sit in the back seat and sleep and relax. LOL!

Mmmmm...I could totally go for some Chicken Enchiladas for dinner! Hi Marie! Most excellent to see you.
Well, it's too bad your meal was just 'okay' Laura because it sure looks lovely in your picture! I love little tempura bits in my sushi.
That's a good word Joce....gadding about. Glad your Shepherd's Pie turned out well. Yum on your dinner. Sounds nummy. And ya....it's still freakin' cold out there. Holy Smokes!
LOL @ the Broccoli face Lori. I understand. :) Do be careful tomorrow with that weather advisory. OMG! Can't believe DL would actually go to everyone's house and pick them up in an ice storm. Indeed, take your own chances.
No Tina hey. That's worrisome. Hope they're okay.
I had a really fun day so far honest to goodness. And that's something considering I spent an hour of it at the Dentist's! :) Went to Costco afterwards and just grabbed a couple of things. The eggs are a better deal there but they would have had to sit in the car for a couple of hours and would have froze so I couldn't buy them until I was on my way home! Went to a Hallmark Store and bought my Mom a few goodies. She has a hard time buying 'writing paper' where she is and so I found some pretty stuff to send her for Valentine's Day. Bought a new book at Chapter's , "My Year with Eleanor".
    http://www.amazon.com/My-Year-Eleanor-Noelle-Hancock/dp/B00A1ACSAO
which I've had on my wish list for awhile. And then I met my girlfriend for lunch. We went to
    http://www.digbysrestaurant.com/
Both of us just had Fish n' Chips. :) Grabbed some wine for tonight's Game. :) And my Indian Food. Stopped in for a few things at my old Hardware store and had a good catch me up with everybody. :) Groceries, then home. It was fun. :)

Great looking menu Janet. I'd be digging into the clam chowder with a side of calamari.
Just back from running errands. Finally did the Costco run. Picked up some nice steaks so it will be steak for dinner tonight. Before Costco I stopped at a produce stand and they had really lovely fresh boniato and jicama. I haven't fixed Spicy Mashed Boniato in a very long while. I"m going to mix up some Copycat Montreal Steak Seasoning to try on the steaks.

Clams and calamari scare me. :) Yum on steak. Do you do them on a Grill outside or on the stovetop inside or in a George Foreman grill? Love steak spice. Never had Jicama although I've heard you mention it before nor Boniato. Very cool.

Lori, According to what I just read on Intellicast.com the severe storm warning in your area has now been canceled. No the less be very careful when driving out there tomorrow.

Janet, Sounds like you had a fun filled day and that looks like an interesting book to read. The menu looks great I would love a good piece of cod. Yum!

Laura, It must be Costco day around here. I had to look up Boniato and it looks like a purple sweet potato to me and then I looked at your recipe. Does it taste like a potato or a sweet potato at all? I have seen Jicama around but never tried it is neat to learn all these new things in here all the time. Yum on steak:)

Is what I am trying here. Was going to make pats cornmeal chicken but the chicken isn't defrosted.
Lori I too would make DL pick me up just to save on the gas money at least lol. But then your at her mercy to get home.
Nothing exciting going on its sooooo cold here!!!

Exactly, Laurie. And I don't want to the the first one pickedup and last one home, either. I live farthest. Gonna have to check out that recipe link, sounds good!

Nope, Joce. Not really cancelled...they just keep changing it. Still going to have freezing rain and ice. The most recent change is from a winter storm watch to a freezing rain advisory. Normal here in the valley for it to change often...hard for them to predict what it will actually do. They break in with updates every few minutes...even when there are no updates! LOL This kind of weather is not the norm for us...only one or two events a year, and not every year, so, the weather ppl really get the most of ouf their few minutes! lol

Sounds like a good day, Janet! And finishing it off with a hockey game and bottle of wine sounds just perfect. LOL at clams and calamari scaring you. I've had calamari and clam chowder both! :) (Welcome to my bubble!)

I'd love a steak, Laura. Not getting to eat much beef any more. And I miss it. Bryan would rather have chicken, but me, I'd rather have BEEF. :)

LOL Lori, You are a riot! (Welcome to my Bubble:D) I would imagine b/c of all the mountains and valleys etc. it would be very hard to predict the weather there. Then again LOL they are wrong most of the time here!

Cod is the norm I know Joce, ours was Haddock today.
Apart from the BROCCOLI!!!! that macaroni recipe looks good Laurie! :)
I so agree Lori....the ride with DL would simply be TORTURE! LOL @ Bubble.

Ya but I just realized I don't have seasoned breadcrumbs. I think I'm gonna sub bacon. Cuz bacon makes a good breadcrumb substitution right..

We use a KitchenAid Griddler which is very much like a George Foreman grill. Boniato is indeed a sweet potato, just white and maybe not quite as sweet. Jicama is a crispy crunchy treat. Eaten plain with just a squeeze of lime is a treat. They can be used as a low carb substitute to chips for dips.

On phone most of day working on Fred's issues. Supposedly rescheduled for Monday. Have to rearrange work. Getting his copays covered.

Onion jam is great on crackers with cheese. On top of a burger. Inside a pastry crust with brie. tucked inside a melted cheese sandwich,

Salmon patties for supper. Tiny peas with mushrooms and onions.

LOL Laurie! Yes, bacon is a great breadcrumb substitute! :)
I've just ordered myself a Cuisinart Griddler with some Airmiles points Laura. I had a Breville Panini Grill which I used A LOT! But it died. So hopefully this one is a good substitute and lasts longer. I've never done a steak in one before. I should give it a go as it really isn't pleasant to go outside these days to BBQ. :( Cool on the Jicama. You aren't going to get me to believe it is a 'good' sub for chips though. Just not buyin' it. :)
Glad you got Fred's surgery scheduled Tina. I'm sure I would adore Onion Jam. Once you make it how long will it keep for? Like a week? Yum on salmon patties. They are on my short list! :)

  • notyourmomma 11 years ago said:
A week for the onion jam is the max. It never lasts that long.....you can stir it in sour cream for baked potatoes too.

I like jicama.....it is crunchy and slightly sweet, very mild.

Bacon was a good choice but the recipe says serves 8 and there wasn't a spec left after the four of us ate :). Definitely a keeper.
I e neve had jicama. Not sure what it even looks like.

Good evening all. Janet.....sounds like you had a wonderful day.

You all are so cold!!!!! Sending some warm sunshine up to you.
I would love love me some of that onion jam Tina! So hope poor Fred gets some relief from all of this soon! Hugs for you both!

I have a Cuisinart Griddler that I got for Christmas last year from hubs and Oma. Janet......you will love it! At least I love mine! I use mine weekly. It makes a delightful panini! And since our grill has been broken (on the agenda to buy a new one this spring!) I have been using it to cook brats. They come out with the same grill marks and juicy like we like them. And I have cooked steak and been delighted as well.

Dinner tonight.........pork tenderloin medallions, brown gravy, boiled potatoes, some broccoli (cayce request) and yes you guessed it..............red cabbage.............

Hope all have a good evening.

    Sleep Sweet All............as always.....................

The steaks were sooo good. the Copycat Montreal Steak Seasoning is terrific. I'll be keeping a bottle of that mixed up and ready to hand. Put a write-up in IMI . Has to be a typo on the amount of salt used. Made a note on the recipe page as well as IMI about that.

Kimmer the griddler is indispensible. We are on our 2nd one. Gave the last one to AmVets because Dad had one completely unused and was going to toss it to the curb. Traded up.

You've got me dreaming about onion jam now Tina! :)
Thanks for the sunshine Kimmer! :) Glad to hear the recommendation on the Cuisinart Griddler. I'm excited for it to arrive and I'll do a steak on it as soon as I can just to try. Love Brats! Jim not so much. :( Would kill for your dinner, except the broccoli (what's wrong with your child?) :),
That Steak seasoning is cool Laura and the four tsp. makes a lot more sense than 4 tbsp. I'm glad you caught it as I may not have and I'm not a big salt fan.
Perfect end to a lovely day. The heat emanating from the fireplace just warms ones bones. Sens tied 1-1. :)
