Merda Su Una Tegola( Italian S O S )

- 1lb link specialty sausages, casings removed(I used chicken spinach/asiago) shopping list
- 1 14ish oz can Italian or similar flavored diced tomatoes shopping list
- 1 cup heavy cream shopping list
- 6 slices provolone or muenster cheese shopping list
- 1 loaf of garlic bread, as prepared one of the two ways, below. shopping list
For garlic bread Shingle
- 1 large loaf Italian bread(14-16 inches or so), sliced in half horizontally shopping list
- 1 stick butter, melted shopping list
- 1T fresh garlic powder shopping list
- 1t dried basil or italian seasoning shopping list

- you can go the high class garlic bread way and drizzle with olive oil and cut fresh garlic cloves... to be honest, gimme the truck stop, Texas toast flavored garlic powdered garlic bread! But, either can certainly be used. shopping list
How to make it
- Prepare garlic bread to your preference if using fresh garlic and oil...OR combine garlic powder and Italian seasoning with melted butter. It will become thick and nearly paste like.
- Brush heavily on cut sides of loaf of bread. See Photo
- Bake at 450 for about 7 minutes, until beautifully, crusty brown. See Photo
- Meanwhile, brown sausages in medium, heavy skillet(I use cast iron), breaking up well and cooking through.
- Add tomatoes, drained. See Photo
- Let simmer about 5 minutes.
- Add cream to sausage and tomatoes. See Photo
- Stir well and continue to simmer another 5 -7 minutes to warm well and slightly thicken.
- When bread is done, immediately layer slices of cheese over garlic butter on bread.
- Serve with creamed sausage mixture spooned over bread and eaten open faced. (I cut each half loaf in half, then spooned, but you could spoon, then cut, if desired :)
