Ingredients

How to make it

  • • Heat the Olive oil in a very deep frying pan or shallow pot, with a heavy bottom.
  • • Add the bacon and beef and simmer until the bacon is just cooked and the beef is browned.
  • • Add all the rest of the ingredients and simmer while stirring until it’s well blended and simmering nicely.
  • • Reduce heat and cover.
  • • Simmer, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is as done as you like it.
  • • Serve with a garnish of your choice.
  • I often serve this with saffron rice or fresh biscuits or Naan.

Okay, sir...made this tonight to go with a new Pomegranate Glazed Chicken recipe I created... VERY good with it! :) Here's what I did: We don't get "great" cabbage this time of year, which is why I wanted to do something full of flavor to surround the mediocre cabbage! :) I crisped the bacon, then set it aside. I followed the rest of the recipe in that same pan, so used all the bacon grease(I didn't add the beef since I was using this as a side dish to a poultry meal), and then added the bacon pieces to the top, at serving. They remained nice and crisp and added a great flavor and texture. Since I liked the idea of saurkraut being used, I did add a nice healthy splash of rice vinegar to give that acid bite. The cucumbers I had to choose from were sad and worse, so I left that out. Otherwise, I followed the recipe, and it was wonderful. Thank you, El Gourmand, for another good'un! :) I added my pic.

This was sooooo good. I used polish sausage and made it a one plate meal. The spices were perfect. Making it again for my Sunday Family Gathering. I would give it 5 forks but this system won't let me.
