Italian Melt
From keni 12 years agoIngredients
For Patties
- 2lbs ground beef(I use round) shopping list
- 12oz fresh portobellos, diced shopping list
- 1/4 cup fine bread crumbs shopping list
- 1T worcestershire sauce shopping list
- 1T fresh Italian herbs, minced shopping list
- 1 clove garlic, minced shopping list
- kosher or sea salt and fresh ground pepper shopping list
- 1lb loaf Italian bread, sliced into 6 slices, about 3/4-1 inch thick and made into garlic bread, however you like(fresh garlic clove rubbed on the oiled, or butter mixed with garlic powder or minced garlic, etc... only add the garlic seasonings to one side) shopping list
- 8oz Provolone, sliced shopping list
- 2 large onions, sliced in rings shopping list
- 2T butter shopping list
- 3 cups favorite marinara shopping list
How to make it
- Combine all patty ingredients and shape into 6 equal round or oval shapes. No need to make them too thick.
- Broil about 5 minutes on each side. Set aside, but keep warm.
- Meanwhile, melt the 2T butter in medium skillet and add onion rings.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring often, until onions are beginning to brown. DO NOT BURN.
- Prepare garlic bread in oven or broiler, too(this should take even less time than the patties) until golden brown.
- Heat marinara in microwave or stove top.
- When bread is done, top each piece with a meat/mushroom patty, a slice of cheese(put back in the oven for a minute to melt the cheese, if desired :), the caramelized onions, and finally, the marinara.
