Ingredients

How to make it

  • Preheat oven to 450. While oven is heating place 2 Tablespoons of oil in iron skillet and heat until almost frying hot.
  • Mix corn meal, egg, and enough buttermilk until mixture is creamy,
  • When oil is hot pour oil into meal mixture and return to skillet.
  • Bake in hot oven until golden brown.
  • Cook time will vary with ovens.

    Hey Rebel, I'm a Bulldog. I'm up north and no there is no Sunflower cornbread here =( though I could have sworn I saw it in the bigger city. I looove that you have the same recipe as my great-grand mother which was passed down to her daughter and her daughter and me. It is so nice to hear of people who use white corn meal for their cornbread. Yay! Thanks for the recipe.

    Delish! and I might add the black iron skillet is a MUST. I have dragged mine all over these United States and in Utah I went to the grocery manager and had them order me some white cornmeal.

    I got tickled at the Sunflower brand conmmeal..It's impossible to find anywhere here in San Antonio..I always used it too.I still I always used White Lily flour too and have just recently been able to find it.I fussed for 3 years.... :)

    Your grandmas recipe is the same as mine... I love this.. I also use it to make our cornbread dressing. Were going to Michigan next summer..I will take my own cornmeal!
