Takes some time to fix but the flavors are delicious. I no idea where Mom got this recipe but I love it.

- 1 lb. dry lentil beans
- 1/2 lb. bacon, diced
- 2 medium onions diced
- 2 nice carrots diced
- 2 quarts water
- 1 cup celery diced
- Salt to taste. I only use Kosher.
- Fresh cracked black pepper to taste
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 large potato pared
- 1 hame bone or a real nice ham hock
- 2 tbsp. lemon juice

Ingredients

1 lb. dry lentil beans shopping list
1/2 lb. bacon, diced shopping list
2 medium onions diced shopping list
2 nice carrots diced shopping list
2 quarts water shopping list
1 cup celery diced shopping list
salt to taste. I only use Kosher. shopping list
Fresh cracked black pepper to taste shopping list
1 bay leaf shopping list
1 large potato pared shopping list
1 hame bone or a real nice ham hock shopping list
2 tbsp. lemon juice shopping list

How to make it

Wash and drain lentils
In large pot fry bacon until crispy
Add onions and carrots.
Cook until onions are tender.
Add lentils, water, celery, salt, pepper and bay leaf.
Grate potato into mixture.
Add ham bone or ham hock.
Simmer 3 hours then remove bay leaf and bone or hock.
Cut meat off bone or hock then return to soup and add lemon juice.
Serve with nice crusty and buttered bread.

Hi there friend. I appreciate this Lentil Soup Recipe. I always wanted to make it but never got around to doing so. But this winter is a good time for hot soup.

This is a similar recipe to one my mother often made. I remember my mother using a ham hock and it was the best!!! Thank you for sharing it as my mother's recipes disappeared after she passed away.

It is really good. I asked Mom years ago about the recipe and she couldn't remember where it was. Unbelievably, I found it 2 days ago in my recipe folder, paper brown around the edges so I had it for years!!!!!!!!
