Ingredients
  • 4 medium white turnips, sliced paper thin
  • 1 yellow onion, sliced thin
  • 4 tablespoons of butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup of heavy cream
  • 4 anchovy fillets, chopped fine
  • 1/4 teaspoon of freshly grated nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon of pepper
  • 1/2 cup of crumbled Roquefort or other blue cheese

Directions
  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Toss together the turnips and onion wiht the melted butter in a 9 inch round baking dish.
  2. cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  3. Heat the cream, anchovies, nutmeg and pepper to a low boil.
  4. Cook for one minute.
  5. Remove the turnips and onions from the oven and take off the foil.
  6. Pour the sauce over, toss well, and sprinkle the blue cheese over the
  7. dish.
  8. Return the turnips to the hour, uncovered, for one hour.
  9. If the top isn't golden brown, run under the broiler until it is a lovely golden toasty color.

Oh Notcho, that sounds devine!!!! I love turnips, I love blue cheese, I love the thought of combining them - thanks for a great new Thanksgiving side...E and I were just talking about it last night, trying to figure out what to make besides the green bean casserole - this one is PERFECT!


This sounds wonderful. I love blue cheese. When I read the title I thought you meant Limburger Cheese. Now that's some really stinky cheese!


I have a bunch of turnips in the frig and I'm going to give this a trial run before the Big day. I'll post a legit picture once I make it.

Made this with the Normandy Pork Chops tonight. Hubby said "they actually managed to make a turnip taste good." It was really good. i will definitely make again!
