Best stored in the freezer, Limoncello can be served straight up in a tiny chilled glass, or as a palate-cleanser during or after a multicourse meal. Makes a wonderful Holiday gift! Enjoy! :)

Ingredients
  • 2 cups 100-proof vodka
  • Zest of 5 lemons, preferably organic
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 ½ cups sugar

Directions
  1. Combine the vodka and lemon zest in a 1-quart covered glass jar; let stand at room temperature for 3 days.
  2. Make a simple syrup by heating the water and sugar in a medium saucepan over medium heat; stir until the sugar dissolves. Remove from the heat and bring to room temperature.
  3. Stir the syrup into the jar containing the vodka. Pour the mixture through a fine mesh sieve; discard the lemon zest.
  4. Pour the Limoncello into one or more clean glass bottles and cap tightly. Store in the refrigerator or freezer.
  5. ***To me it depends on taste of the person making it, for flavor, it can take 1 week for some or up to 3 months for others, it is a personal choice. *** :)

Sounds good to me!

Bookmarked for the ice cream. Thanks!

Neat! *wink*

This sounds delightful! What a great Christmas gift this is going to make. Thank you!

The recipe usually ends with "leave unopened for 2 months." It can be a bit raw at first and needs to settle down.

You can buy this stuff by the gallons in Europe...this is great stuff...

I love this recipe! I have had this with a touch a cream...pure heaven!

I love Limoncello.. this is a great recipe.

Love your recipe, just submitted one and others popped up. Guess one can't have too many.

Absolutely an addictive sip for a lemon lover, great post.

This looks great. Don't know if I can get 100 proof vodka. Can it be made with less proof?

I have a question about this recipe. Can it be made with other fruits? Maybe strawberries or peaches?

I really cannot answer that...why not try it and let me know! :)
