Ingredients

How to make it

  • In a heavy saucepan, mix together cornstarch, sugar, and cocoa until blended. Add milk.
  • Whisking constantly, bring to a boil over medium heat.
  • Boil, whisking, for 2 minutes, or until mixture becomes thick.
  • Remove from heat, and whisk in chocolate pieces and vanilla.
  • Transfer pudding to a bowl and cool in the refrigerator with a sheet of plastic wrap pressed to the surface to prevent a skin from forming.

Divine. Substituted stevia for the sugar. It's heavenly and sugar free. Added the chocolate with everything else and it came together perfectly. The boxed pudding tastes terrible by comparison. Thanks for posting this recipe!

Really yummy pudding. I've made it a few times. If you want it to be a little less rich and more milk-chocolate like, you can eliminate one of the chocolate ingredients. I left out the chocolate chips and it tasted less dark chocolate. Also, if you want to use it for a pie be sure to increase the boiling time, but keep whisking constantly! Also cutting back just a bit on the milk will make it rirmer.

If making pudding is this easy, why does anyone use a mix? I can't wait to try this.

Love homemade pudding, I think my daughter will love this too. She's always had the pudding bought in supermarkets in France, and quite frankly, they're not good .. Will try this tonight !
Thanks for a simple but satisfying recipe !!

I like it. I just made this - turned out really well, actually. I had a craving for chocolate pudding, and decided to make it; this is very close to the recipe that my mother used as I was growing up. However, I was not interested in calling her to say "Your grown son wants to make pudding, please share your recipe." It seemed altogether too emasculating.

Thus, your recipe has allowed me to remain macho and yet enjoy some homemade pudding. ;-)

I didn't have chocolate, but I had Dutch Droste cocoa, so I just used 1/4 cup of that. Fantastic, not too sweet. You didn't mention a chill time, so I went with half an hour in a metal bowl.
