Pintobean / All my dishes 1 year, 3 months ago
A must for any southern meal. Goes great with buttermilk cornbread and chopped green onions. Sometimes I have a bowl as a meal for lunch .Be careful , high source of fiber. Its possible you could make your own whirlpool bath!!!

Growing up in southern W.Va., I had pinto beans, cornbread, and chow chow (LOL) for dinner every Saturday nite until I graduated high school. My mom used ham hocks instead of salt pork.
These days, I use smoked turkey wings or legs to add that punch of smoked meat flavor...can't say that it does much for the whirlpool bath effects though! LOL

I grew up with pinto beans simmering in a pot all day and everyone grabbing a bowl with cornbread on the side. Those were the days. I don't see people doing that as much nowadays. I want to post my father's recipe. I just have to translate what a big pinch, handful that, simmer until it looks good to you means. :)

I bought pinto beans yesterday so maybe i will try them this way. I usually just cook them and add a little bacon grease to them.
We were in a gift shop in Pigeon Forge and they had a small pack of pinto beans with the label "Hillbilly Bubble Bath"!!!

Nice beans, like the addition of catsup. Very easy and comforting.

Even though I cook a wide variety of foods, beans are a staple at our home....I add 4 onions whole to the pintos and sometimes there are pieces of cooked onions left...I also use bacon or salt meat(wash this 3 times before adding) or even a couple pork chops (fried) to start these beans...I use parsley, 1 tbl. at least sugar, 1/8 tbl. red pepper, i teaspoon sea salt (according to taste and meat used)....I boil water and add to fried meats used and the ingredients and after boiling for about 2-3 minutes add the beans...Then I cook on very low in a iron pot and add chicken bouillion cubes and water as needed (watch the bouillion cubes as you can get too salty)....It is all about your taste, but essentially this is the method I use to cook any beans...I do lots of tasting before the final result ....Happy Cooking!
