Ingredients

How to make it

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease(I use cooking spray) and flour the two loaf pans. Mix the flour, sugar, cinnamon, baking soda, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Add the vanilla, oil, eggs, strawberries, and walnuts. Beat until the dry ingredients are just moist. Pour into the prepared loaf pans and bake for 1 hour. The breads are done when they start to come away from the sides of the pan and an inserted wooden pick comes out clean.

this bread is fantastic! i have been baking it from my great grandmother nanny fowler bradshaw's from alton, va. old recipe for over 5 years and give mini loaves to friends for gifts and to my instructors at the college after current senesters are over as an appreciation for their much respected time. they are delicious to eat at any time of the day. they never disappoint.

I have made this bread as well as cornbread and banana bread in a cast iron skillet over a campfire. My grandmother made alot of breads in a cast iron skillet on top of the stove. You may want to give it a try.

This recipe was favored over someone's homemade cheese cake last night at a party I brought it to....easy and impressive and worth every bit of little effort.
Like with banana bread, this is a moist bread, so let it cool down considerably before taking it out of your loaf pan, since it continues to bake ever so little once out of the oven and again like banana bread - this bread is fantastic and even better on the second day!

It's out of the oven and cooling down...ok so I sneaked a slice and ate it all up..looks great and tastes fantastic! Light, airy, moist. And You are right about the house smelling wonderful! I used butter instead of veg oil and had mixed berries but all worked extremely well - I even oven roasted the walnuts for a few minutes prior to adding them into the batter. Great posting and recipe! It gets my high five!
