Ingredients

How to make it

  • Combine egg & buttermilk (set aside)
  • Combine 1/4 cup all purpose flour, cornmeal, 1 tea. salt and pepper in a shallow bowl
  • Dredge tomato slices in remaining 1/4 cup flour; dip in egg mixture and dredge in cornmeal mixture
  • Pour oil to about 1/4 - 1/2 inch deep in cast iron skillet
  • Drop tomatoes, in batches into HOT oil and cook 2 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
  • Drain on paper towels
  • Sprinkle with salt

    very close to mine - these are such a favorite of mine - thanks for posting this one - I grow tomatoes, just for the chance to make fried green tomatoes! If more Northerns (like me) actually knew how great these were, we'd never eat red tomatoes - lol
