Ingredients

1 large egg slightly beaten

1/2 cup buttermilK

1/2 cup all purpose flour, divided

1/2 cup cornmeal

1/3-1/2 cup grated fresh parmasean cheese

1 tea. salt

1/2 tea. pepper

3 medium size green tomatoes, sliced about 1/3" slices

vegetable oil

salt to taste

Directions

Combine egg & buttermilk (set aside)

Combine 1/4 cup all purpose flour, cornmeal, 1 tea. salt and pepper in a shallow bowl

Dredge tomato slices in remaining 1/4 cup flour; dip in egg mixture and dredge in cornmeal mixture

Pour oil to about 1/4 - 1/2 inch deep in cast iron skillet

Drop tomatoes, in batches into HOT oil and cook 2 minutes on each side or until golden brown.

Drain on paper towels

Sprinkle with salt

Very close to mine - these are such a favorite of mine - thanks for posting this one - I grow tomatoes, just for the chance to make fried green tomatoes! If more Northerns (like me) actually knew how great these were, we'd never eat red tomatoes - lol
