Meatloaf Marsala

- 2 shopping list
- 2 lbs. ground beef (grass fed angus is the best) shopping list
- 1 lb spicy sausages (hot Italian, Southwestern, etc.) shopping list
- 6-8 oz marinated mozzarella cheese, grated shopping list
- 1 onion chopped shopping list
- 1 T. crushed garlic shopping list
- 12 oz Italian style bread crumbs shopping list
- 4 oz sun dried tomatoes in olive oil, chopped shopping list
- 1 T. dried basil shopping list
- 1 T. (plus) dried oregano shopping list
- 1 t. fennel seeds shopping list
- 2 T. olive oil shopping list
- 2 eggs shopping list
- 1 12 oz jar marinara sauce (you can experiment with different versions and brands) shopping list
- 1 cup sweet marsala wine shopping list
- hot sauce shopping list
- creamed horseradish shopping list
- ketchup shopping list
How to make it
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees
- Saute the onion in oil until soft.
- Cut the sausages in half and remove the meat from the casings and crumble. Add to the ground beef in a large mixing bowl. Add the onions, bread crumbs, sun dried tomatoes, and spices. Blend in the eggs and then 2/3 of the marinara sauce. Then the Marsala.
- Divide the mixture into 2 long oval loaves and place them on an oiled piece of aluminum foil on a cookie sheet.
- Pour the remaining marinara sauce on top and dust with more oregano, salt and fresh ground black pepper.
- Bake for 45 minutes to an hour, until the temperature in the center reached 150-160 degrees.
- Allow to stand for 15 minutes before slicing into thick tranches
- Serve with hot sauce, creamed horseradish, and ketchup for the kids.
- Serves 8-10
