Ingredients

How to make it

  • Drain rinsed turtle.
  • Heat oil in frying pan over medium high heat.
  • Dust turtle with flour, salt and peppers to taste.
  • Brown turtle a few pieces at a time on all sides and place in roasting pan.
  • Sprinkle lightly with celery seed.
  • Add potatoes and sprinkle onion soup mix over all.
  • Cover pan with foil or lid and place in 350 F over for 2 to 2 1/2 hrs until very tender.
  • May add a small amount of water before roasting. No more than 1/2 cup.
  • Good served with your favorite coleslaw.

    I remember having a lot of road kill turtle, growing up. Did you know that by burying the turtle eggs sometimes you get lucky and they will hatch out. Just a thought.

    The exotic meats are interesting to those that have not been able to experience the cuisine,to others they are just dinner.

    i've never eaten them b4 but i sure seem to know how to catch em..now i know what todowith the boogers besides cut the line or kill em..i'm just brave enuff to try this

    In the town I grew up along the Mississippi, they would have Turtle feeds once or twice a year.. Usually grilled. It was quite tasty grilled. The meat is much milder than one would think.. Kindof on the order of Alligator. Thanks for the memories... ;-~~ Jim
