Ingredients
  • Packet of Betty Crocker Chocolate Devil food Cake. (instructions on packet)
  • 4 eggs
  • veg oil
  • water
  • For Decoration
  • Ready roll icing
  • Yellow colouring
  • Chocolate
  • pack of icing writing tubes (4 colours)
  • 2 chocolate covered Swiss rolls (small)
  • Small amount of marzipan

Directions
  1. Make up the cake mixture as directed, except for the eggs only add the yokes I separate the eggs and whisk the egg whites till stiff and put to one side.
  2. After mixing the mixture fold in the egg whites this makes the cake very light.
  3. Pour into a greased and base lined rectangle baking tin.
  4. cook as instructions on packet.
  5. Decoration
  6. When cool cut into to make a top and bottom,
  7. Fill with Betty Crocker chocolate filling
  8. Sandwich together
  9. Spread a small amount of the chocolate filling (or you could make a small amount of butter cream) over the cake to help the icing to stick.
  10. Mix a 2-3rds of the icing with yellow colouring
  11. Roll out the yellow icing and place on the top 2-3rd of the cake.
  12. Roll out the final white 3rd of the icing and place on the bottom 3rd of the cake (keep a small bit of icing for sleeves and eyes.)
  13. Shape marzipan into arms and legs with a shape for his shirt sleeves in white icing also his socks.
  14. Use a small glass to press the shape out of white icing for his eyes place them on the cake
  15. Melt the chocolate and brush onto the bottom half of the white icing to create his trousers.
  16. Cut the 2 Swiss rolls in half and use as trouser legs and shoes, brush these with the chocolate so that they are the same colour as the trousers.
  17. Draw on his face with the writing tubes also his shirt collar and tie and stripes on his socks.

Cute, cute cute...you are a great cake decorater! My son would really like this. I could never decorate it so good sooo he will have to settle with non decorated cakes. =)


Hey there Vivian...Love your Spongebob cake. I made one for my son's 8th birthday in June this year....and it didnt look as perfecto as yours!!I did however make it from scratch, and iced it with a buttercream icing. Made me weep for a while becos it was 43degrees HOT, and the peak opf the Indian summer!! Was just like melting moments!!


I am ashamed to admit that my *adult* brother is a fan of Spongebob (I don't even want to know why!) so I'm sure he'd love this cake! Next time he's in the vicinty around his birthday I'll make sure to make this for him!
