I like clean floors and who doesn't? This is excellent to use for those sensitive to cleaning products or those with horrible allergies. Having two pets in the house doesn't help, but since I have been washing the floors with this solution, the house... More

Ingredients
  • White Vinegar (I usually buy a gallon for $3-)
  • Hot water
  • One Pail
  • One mop
  • One or two messy floors

Directions
  1. Not only does this remove any grime, even on wood floors, it removes any trace of pet stains and related scents.
  2. My dog has not made a mistake in the house since I have been doing this, and my house is all wood floors. This also helps prevents those little ants from finding anything sweet on your floors to tell all their pals to come on over in a line to check it out.
  3. I learned this trick a month ago from a pal of mine who works managing a very wealthy family's estate and they use this to clean their antique wood floors, so I thought, heck, if its good enough for them, then I just 'has' to try it.
  4. I was super amazed at how clean the house smelled afterwards, loved that I wasn't hurting the environment, blah blah blah... you get the idea.
  5. ****
  6. Use 50/50 ratio of hot water and the vinegar.
  7. Mop away to your hearts content. Allow floors to dry. No need to rinse.
  8. ***Here are a few more finds I found with this amazing ingredient:
  9. ****First Aid
  10. * Relieve the itch from poison ivy and reduce swelling by applying directly to the affected area.
  11. * A cotton ball soaked in cider vinegar held to an insect sting brings relief.
  12. * Soothe a jellyfish sting by dousing the area with vinegar.
  13. * A quick dose of vinegar on a burn will prevent blistering.
  14. * Apply directly to the skin as an antiseptic for cuts and abrasions; reduces swelling and promotes healing. Vinegar is a natural antiseptic.
  15. *Use a washcloth soaked in vinegar and place all over your sunburns, takes out the sting asap - I personally have done this back in the days when I used to sun - it totally works. - Might sting just a bit but only for the first few seconds, but instantly cools down and sting is gone.
  16. * Mix equal parts honey and apple cider vinegar together to soothe a sore throat.
  17. ****Cooking
  18. * A tablespoon of vinegar added to eggs before scrambling adds zest.
  19. * A few drops of vinegar in pasta as it boils makes the pasta less sticky.
  20. * Soak your favorite dried beans in apple cider vinegar overnight and rinse completely to lessen the gas they create.
  21. * A little vinegar in the water will keep egg whites from running out if it cracks when boiling.
  22. *****Cleaning and Deodorizing Gear
  23. * Use a half and half solution of vinegar and water to clean up tough stains on plastic or on metal kitchen utensils.
  24. * Clean and deodorize plastic coolers with vinegar and water. Follow with washing in soap and water.
  25. * Remove stubborn stains in pots by soaking in vinegar for thirty minutes. Ditto with cleaning your coffee pots. Wash using hot soapy water. Another method; fill the pot with a solution of 3 tablespoons of vinegar to a pint of water. Boil until stain loosens and can be washed away with soap and water.
  26. * Wash your hands with vinegar after cutting onions, garlic, peppers or cabbage to remove the smell.
  27. * A cup of vinegar added in the rinse cycle will deodorize clothing smelling of campfire smoke or other odors.
  28. *****Insect Repellent
  29. * Drink a couple of spoonfuls of vinegar daily to repel mosquitoes.
  30. I have yet to try this but I will:
  31. * Propane lantern mantles last longer and burn brighter on the same amount of fuel if they are soaked for several hours in distilled vinegar and allowed to dry before using.
  32. There are plenty other ideas out there too with using vinegar - the power liquid.

Wow cool... they are beginning to use vinegar in commercial cleaning product, but screw that when I can use plain white vinegar for much cheaper myself.
I only have one problem - my husband absolutely abhors the smell. :( Have to do it when he isn't home :)

Yeah yeah {great idea thanks

I love this for grease cutting. Great post!

Great tips! It's also good for getting rid of skunk stink!! Mix it was baking soda to form a paste and it bubbles the oily stink out of fabric, off the skin and out of the dog!! HAd to use it the one and only time our dog got sprayed and DH did not know, let the dog in the house who promptly jumped up on our fabric couch!

I always use vinegar to clean my floors. When I was in the hospital when I had my kidney transplant my next door neighbor came over and cleaned my house from top to nottom and this is what she used. I couldn't believe how good it cleaned and I have been using it ever since. Great post!

Thanks Diva! Great info! Can't wait to try it. Not that I love to mop or anything but if I gotta why not save a little money and make the kitchen smell good too?

Awesome....:)

Love the post and learned a lot. I normally dread mopping my wood floors because they seem to streak with everything I've tried. I'm anxious to mop this time and see how it works for me ;)

Also works wonders on the mineral deposit left in the water dispenser on your refrigerator.

Great ideas! Thanks.

Could you use this for any floors?
