Jetts Sister Lindas Strawberry Shortcake

- 2 cups sifted all purpose flour shopping list
- 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder shopping list
- 2 Tablespoons sugar shopping list
- 1/4 teaspoon salt shopping list
- 5 Tablespoons shortening shopping list
- 2/3 cup milk (about)* shopping list
- Melted butter shopping list
- fresh strawberries or 2 Pkgs (10oz. each) frozen strawberries, thawed. shopping list
- whipped cream or topping shopping list
- *For richer shortcakes, reduce milk to 6 Tablespoons and add one well-beaten egg with the milk. shopping list
How to make it
- Measure sifted flour. Add baking powder, sugar and salt and sift again.
- Cut in the shortening.
- Add milk and stir with fork until soft dough is formed ( about 20 strokes).
- Place on lightly floured board and knead 20 turns.
- Pat or roll lightly 1/4 inch thick; cut 14 circles with floured 2-inch biscuit cutter.
- Brush 7 of these with melted butter and top with remaining biscuits.
- Bake on ungreased baking sheet in hot oven (450 degrees F )
- Bake for 12 - 15 minutes.
- To serve, separate hot shortcakes, fill and top with sweetened strawberries.
- Garnish with whipped cream or dessert topping
- Makes 7 shortcakes
