It's basic, its easy, it's perfect for a campfire, it's absolutely unbelievable combined with the smell of the early morning pine woods.

When I was young and went to summer camp, this is what the Counselors would make for us over the morning campfire. They'd actually cook these on the bottom of coffee cans. Thanks for the memory! I think I'll make these for my boys!

I love this - and yes, real butter is perfect here and makes a big difference. Like Annieamie, your recipe takes me back to my childhood and those wonderful summer camps, too. Great post and thanks so much - for the recipe, memories and smiles! ~Vickie

I like to slobber the runny yolk all over the bread, but the basics are the same. The smell of the wood fire .... campfire coffee .... a hot cast iron skillet with bacon splattering in its juices ... a piece of bread toasted nearly black ... an egg ... a sudden downpour .... oops there goes the dream. Still, it can't be beat!!
