I'm beginning to wonder whether mother brought home a bag of crab apples. All of the recipes I have researched give from 35 minutes to an hour to bake the pie using raw apple slices. They all can't be wrong. And I used the longest baking time recipe.

I don't know how to tell the difference between granny smith and crab apples. Time for more research.

Geeze!!! Mother has tore into it already! It's still way hot. Can't handle the dish without mittens. Didn't get very long to set up.
There was soup in the bottom of the pie. I poured out 1/3 of a cup.

She says the flavor is good and the crust is good but the apples are not done. Next time I'll par-boil the apples. Don't know what to do about the fluid though. Maybe it would have congealed if the pie were given a chance to cool off. Hard saying.

I'm trying your pie today with my crust. Thought I had every ingredient. On the filling step I found out that there was no heavy cream and everything was assembled, so I substituted sour cream for the heavy cream. Hope it turns out.

Sounds like the cream would almost make it caramelly inside...oh, I'm hungry now! Will try this as soon as it's cool enough to turn on the oven again - delish, I'm certain!
