I made these without the icing and added caramel/chocolate chips with 1-2 Tablespoons more sugar. They were fantastic, especially right out of the oven!

Oops, i guess this thing does not accept 'dashes'. cooking time should be 10 to 12 minutes and it makes about 15 to 20 cookies.

We ate these up! While I was working with the icing, my 2-year-old slipped up behind me and ate EIGHT cookies before I saw him! I made another batch the next day, and my husband ate 10. They both liked the cookies better without the icing. They're really easy that way, so I'll be making a lot of these!

Thank you! thank you! thank you! I can't begin to tell you how excited I am to find this recipe. These are my husbands favorites and he only gets them when we get back up to New York, which just isn't often enough. I can't wait to make these. He will be so surprised.

Yum! Made these for my mother-in-law for mothers day. They're like fairy cakes, which I half dunked in choc!

Yummy! This looks like a cake common in Germany. It's called "Amerikaner" which translates "Americans". Seriously! :) You will find it in every bakery here.
Thanks for sharing the recipe.

Make me miss New York, I'll have to make these soon. One of my favorites! People in Colorado don't know what I'm talking about when I say Black and White Cookies, I get blank stares. And good luck finding then in any local bakery. Can't wait to introduce these to people here. Mmmmm.... Thanks So MUCH!
