BARBECUE CUBE STEAK This recipe came from an estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Cotton Estate in Conroe, Texas in 1988.

Ingredients
  • 4 pounds cubed steak
  • 1/4 cup flour seasoned with salt and pepper
  • 3 tablespoons fat
  • 1 medium white onion
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup catsup
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar

Directions
  1. Flour and season steak then brown in fat then add chopped onion and brown lightly.
  2. Combine remaining ingredients and pour over steak then cover slowly.
  3. Cook slowly for 35 minutes.

I made these last week and forgot to come back and comment...Very yummy stuff, kinda made me think of a sloppy joe flavor. Nice and tender meat. The leftovers were very good on a toasted bun with sliced pickles the next day. :)
