I often have a green salad ( med. portions of assorted greens ) with a fat and sugar free dressing ,some tomatoes, cukes, onions, mushrooms and a few cubes of cooked skinless white chicken breast. This is lunch.
Works for me.
btw, nice photo of you two
Midge
I do try to exercise at least 3 times a week for 30 minutes. Cardio and bone density exercises

Nothing white...no bread, pasta or sugar.
I have lost 20 pounds and 2 sizes (now a 10-12) since April. Lots of fruit, veggies and protein.
I exercise when I can, but don't go crazy. I love to cook and bake and limit my portions. I have found that as long as I can tast it, I am fine. And I never gave up my wine with meals on the weekends!

Same with linspj. Nothing white. Even brown sugar should be limited. Let me give you some tips
1. Do not eat carbs 4 hours before you go to bed
2. Do NOT eat sugar. Check your labels! If your cereal has added sugar, don't buy it.
3. Quaker oats, Shredded wheat, all bran flakes and muesli are the best for breakfast. There should be NO added sugar
4. Measure your food+ cereal. Your cereal shouldnt be more than 3/4 cup
5. Do not overcook your wholewheat items. That way, you pass out about half of it because it will be insoluble. But it will still keep you full for a long time. Make your Pasta aldente.
6. Try unsweetened Soy milk
7. Take out the yolk from your eggs
8. Olive oil is the best
9. Substitute white potatoes for sweet potatoes
10. Make your salads enticing! Add some avocado, chicken breasts, raisins, almonds, eggs etc
11. The greener the veggie the better. Don't buy iceberg, buy green-leaf or romaine
12. Do not eat a meal without vegetables. Except bfast, of course. Which should be had with a fruit
13. Don't eat more than 3 pieces of fruit in a day
14. High sugar fruits, such as bananas and grapes--should be eaten in the morning and afternoon, not at night
15. Try to exercise!

I follow the same diet concept as Linspi and Anu20. I bake for everyone else and rarely eat what I bake. I might have a little taste but no more than that. I drink plenty of water, milk and a small glass of orange juice each day. I eat healthy cereals ie. oatmeal, cream of wheat and bran flakes. I rarely drink alcoholic beverages. I believe in vitamins but can't take them due to many sensitivities and allergies. I don't snack on crisps or other snack foods and I limit my beef intake. I have lost weight watching what I eat and a little exercise tossed in for fun ;)

I love you guys...puddle What I do is use moringstar vegetarian grillers (130 calories) with western bagel english muffins (100 calories) or orowheat light wheat bread (40 calorie a slice bread) and add laughing cow light cheese( 35 per piece) and add avocado, tomato, spinach and sprouts and top with a few cruncy walnuts and yum yum time...under the calorie count..must must add garlic to the grillers....it's very good...

How about a grilled breast of chicken that has been marinated in orange juice, served with fresh salsa on top, steamed broccoli with sliced white onion and potatoes mashed with garlic, fat-free sour cream and a pinch of horseradish? Does that work? Thanks Susie for the inspiration!

Here's one from me: 1 boneless, skinless chicken breast marinated in 2 teaspoons extra virgin olive oil, lemon juice, fresh oregano, rosemary, thyme and salt and pepper to taste. Grill until done. Serve with 1 tablespoon of my Easy Greek Tzatziki and 1/2 cup steamed fresh green beans. Mmmmmmm. A healthy and tasty meal for sure.

Oh Puddle, I forgot you were vegetarian: to the above substitute marinated green and yellow peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms and red onion for the chicken and serve in a pita!

Less beer, more salad, spray on dressing...(?)
I don't count calories, really, cause they never did anything to me. BUT, I did go from a size 12+ to a size 6/8 in less than a year just by drinking more water and less beer, NO soda, and eating more veggies. Not likely to quit meat again, but don't eat it every day either.

I also think food talk is as important as "recipes" and that things like this that stimulate chat and idea exchange are good. I rarely "follow" recipes, anyway!
