How to make it

  • In a large dutch oven, cook the bacon over medium heat until crisp, about 12 minutes. Using a slotted spoon, transfer to paper towels to drain. Add the onions to the pot, season with salt and cook for about 10 mintues.
  • Sprinkle the onions with the flour and stir for about 1 minute. Stir in the chicken broth and bring to a boil. Lower the heat and simmer for about 30 minutes.
  • Stir in the milk or half and half and heat through.
  • Garnish with the bacon and chives and serve.
