How to make it

  • Cream butter and sugar, add eggs, mixing well.
  • Add dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk.
  • Then add the lemon extract.
  • Bake in a greased, floured tube pan at 325 degrees for approximately 90 min. Cool.
  • GLAZE:
  • Warm the butter and milk together.
  • Add powdered sugar gradually, then add the extract.
  • Spoon over cool cake.

    I told you I was going to try it. Truthfully baking is not one of my best skills but it did turn out good. And it is delicious. I made one noticeable error, I did not put enough powdered sugar in the glaze and it was too thin. So instead of a glaze I got an infusion. But that wasn't all bad either, sure keeps the cake moist.... LOL

    I added a pic of the cake before putting the glaze on it. Can take if off if you don't want it there.

    I don't like lemon pie as much as lemon cake. But the buttermilk in this recipe is looking more like a cheese cake than anything else. It looks like a goodie!

    Thanks debbie! I'm one of those who can stand that lemony flavor in just about anything at all! It may be a while until I get to post it but my late father made a soup with bread noodles and lots of lemon zest. It was a Christmas only soup. My job when he was making it was separating the noodles so that they could dry before being put into his homemade stock. It almost doesn't taste the same when I make it. Maybe we two need our dads back with us, huh?
