Ingredients

1 lb of ground beef

1 1/3 cups instant potato flakes

plus another 1 and 1/3 for the frosting

1 egg

1 teaspoon of salt

1/8 teaspoon of pepper or more if you like pepper

1 teaspoon of chopped garlic

1/4 cup ketchup

1 cup of milk

plus milk for the mashed potatos on top

3/4 cup of shredded cheese we like the mexican mix but any kind will do

Directions

Mix meat, 1/13 of the instant potatos(dry) the egg the salt, pepper , garlic,milk and ketchup.

spread mixture into an ungreased pie pan

bake uncovered for 35-40 minutes

prepare the remaining mashed potatos as directed on the box we like to make a little extra for a thicker layer.

after the meatloaf has been cooking for about 40 minutes add the mashed potatos to the top at this point I like to add a layer of peas before I put on the potatoes

add cheese to the top of the potatoes and bake for another 5 minutes until the cheese melts.

I loved hamburger pie when I was a kid. Ours was made with tomato soup though. Maybe I should try this - can't eat mine anymore-gives major heartburn! ;')

This is a keeper! Kids went 'oooooh' when it came out of the oven all melty/cheesy. I did have more than a lb. of ground beef and should have added more of the other ingredients but the family didn't mind. Clean plates always deserves a ^5.
