Pig Candy
From midgelet 15 years agoIngredients
- bacon -- extra thick cut shopping list
- honey or syrup, or sugar ( esp brown ) shopping list
- nuts ( Optional ), chopped pecans or almonds shopping list
How to make it
- On a rack over a baking pan, Ilay the bacon out flat, single layer, not touching.
- About 45 minutes at 250F leaves behind a pan full of bacon fat and strips of bacon that feel like pig-flavored wisps; very light.
- The strips have had virtually all the fat rendered.
- Next, out of the oven and pour off the fat (to save for another
- day).
- Loosen the strips from the rack (if necessary) and either pile with brown sugar or trickle a generous amount of honey along their lengths.
- Back into the oven to let the sweetness melt into the bacon.
- Maybe 1/2 hour this time.
- Note other recipes use 350F for 30 minutes and some say the nuts don't stick too well. See ideas in the description section above

Oh man, I love bacon appetizers like this - the sweet bacon in contrast to the salty bacon is just so good - like the addition of nuts in this one, too. More protein! Thanks for the reminder of such an easy appetzer that is absolutely addictive...Kr...more
