This is recipe is taken from The Philadelphia Inquirer. It was originally published in Endangered Recipes by Lari Robling. A simple to make but delicious dessert pie!

Ingredients
  • 1 9" pie crust, store-bought OR homemade
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 stick butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Freshly grated nutmeg for garnish, if desired

Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F..
  2. In large bowl beat the eggs until smooth.
  3. Add sugar, buttermilk, butter, flour and vanilla.
  4. Mix well.
  5. Line a 9" pie pan with 1 round of unbaked pie crust.
  6. Pour filling into crust.
  7. Sprinkle with nutmeg, if desired.
  8. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes OR until just firm.
  9. The filling should be set but jiggle a bit in the center.

Hi Lorraine, I am back to tell you that I did make this, and it came out delicious! Tasted like a yummy custard! Took a picture of my slice, thanks for this recipe, it's definitely a keeper!

When I was a little girl we used to go to Robbins, IL for Thanksgiving dinner at my aunt and uncle's house. My aunt was born in ALabama and she made the absolute best buttermilk custard pie. Since she passed I haven't had any, but always meant to bake one. Thanks for the recipe and you've got my 5. Such a comfort and tomorrow I'll get the ingredietns to bake it.
