Ingredients

  • Hey Everyone, shopping list
  • Today I recieved a call at work, right at time to go, from a lady with very broken English, who said that I had an important legal matter that I needed to take care of, she would be receiving the file "tomorrow" and my sherffi's dept. would act on in "the next day, Friday"...(well, first of all, the next day would be Saturday, but I digress). I told her I was at work, and I would need to return her call, she said she would expect me to call immediately after work, and if I did not she could only wish me good luck with my case. She gave me a call back number of 310-362-9386 shopping list
  • Being the paranoid internet detective that I am, I stayed a few minutes and googled that number. Pulled up a blog that this was a scam, people are receiving calls lthat they took out a loan from "cash net" in May, 2008 which they never repaid, and are being told they are going to be arrested if they don't pay it back now, etc. etc. Of course, none of these people ever took out a loan from cash net. shopping list
  • So, when I got in the car to come home, I had a missed call from 941-961-8518 same lady, same message. "Jennifer". SO...I came home and googled that number. OMG...the blog is copied below. These people apparently DON'T stop. They call people at work multiple times a day, etc. etc. And, have all their personal info. shopping list
  • SO...to have a little fun, I called them back. It was just like they describe in the blog. LOTS of noise. Same phrasing of threats. Kept trying to get me to verify my employer, address and phone. They had it right, but, I didn't verify. I just kept asking questions, saying that I didn't know what they were talking about, etc. They finally said that i had a loan taken out through cash net in May 2008. I told them that was not true, that I had seen online that this phone number was associated with a scam trying to collect loans that never were for cash net, and they hung up on me. shopping list
  • They had my bank name right, but, what they don't know is that I use an online bank, and, cannot do loans that require an automatic debit. I am the only one that can approve an online debit and set up the transaction. shopping list
  • There are multiple numbers associated with this scam. (Bryan and I both keep getting calls from a number about our car warrantly expiring, and neither of us have a warranty! Saw it covered on the Today Show this morning, and even Matt Lauer and the other hosts are getting THOSE calls!). Anyway, when you have time, read the blog below. Please see if any of the unknown numbers you may not answer are listed. shopping list
  • It says if you receive a call from this group to report to multiple agencies, FBI, FTC, Local Police, Attorney General, etc. etc. And, the contacts are listed. I am also reporting to the legal dept at work since they called me there. shopping list
  • Sorry for the longwinded email, but, this is NOT right. And, the only way to stop it is to report it when it happens to us, and, to make others aware. shopping list
  • SO, if you ignore unknown numbers like most of us do, please take a minute to check your caller id log, and read the attached blog. They may have YOUR info, too!!! OR they may have a friend's info if not yours, please pass along. shopping list
  • THANKS! shopping list

I have been in a sheer panic all day receiving this phone call at work. Very rude, irate acting person trying to deceive me into thinking I would be in jail Monday morning if I did not resolve this matter today. Even received call at home this afternoon and they continued with this nonesense. Finally the "gentlemen' said, "A warrent was issued for you two days ago and you will be spending July 4th in jail. I said if thats the case then why are you calling now and hung up. Thank you so much for the info given on this. I will be following up on reporting this and even discussing the matter with my banking instution as they seem to know way too much about me and my acct info. Thanks a again.

Just imagine the horrors for some elderly people with "memory" issues. Can you imagine how easily they could be scammed? This is awful. Thanks for the head's up and I'm going to get me a whistle.

If you haven't registered with both the Federal and State Do Not Call Registery, do so. It won't stop you from getting these calls, but it is another avenue to report the calls to stop them. I know....I've used it numerous times and have helped stop this nonsense in the past. And you do get to have a little fun with them getting THEIR information to report. Good luck!

THANKS FOR THE HEADS UP - BUT I DON'T ANSWER THE PHONE UNLESS I KNOW WHO IT IS - PLUS IF I DID ANSWER I WOULD JUST TELL THEM WHERE TO GO OR HANG UP ON THEM!

I found out the reason why these people don't ever get caught is because they are a native american tribe group (in South Dakota) and the federal government doesn't want to get caught in persecuting this group of people 'again'.

FYI, and perhaps usefully... Years ago I had a problem with a really harassing and vulgar caller. I contacted the police and gave them permission to trace our calls. The officer I spoke with was lovely and suggested I keep a whistle with me and the next time the person called I was to blow really hard and loudly into the phone with the whistle. He said that given the pain of phoning me they'd move on to another target. It worked! Meanwhile, we did figure out who it was and addressed it. I am not sure if the guy's hearing ever fully recovered and can't say I cared. I still have the whistle.
