I thought OGM's avatar was a bit more controvercial...again, what does the "F" stand for? I have a pretty good idea after she deleted her recipes and friends. I guess having the word "OFF" under the "F" would have been too obvious.

We don't all have the same tastes, likes, or dislikes, so I guess it's to be expected! And I thought of something regarding low ratings...when you first sign up, it tells you to be sure and "rate" recipes so the "robot" can learn what you do and don't like...so, maybe some of these low ratings are not meant to be insulting, but just people marking their personal preferences for that reason? The world may never know... : @ ) I just enjoy seeing all these recipes, getting ideas, and most of all the friendships that we are establishing!

Obesity is rampant. I feel like I am not far from the size of the woman in the avatar, and although I probably am one, it sometimes hurts to be referred to as a big, fat woman, and to feel like others are laughing. (I do hope I have more taste than to dress in a tube top and skin tight jeans, though...LOL). Just keep in mind that there are those out there who are likely more sensitive to that than others, and might be hurt, albeit unintentionally on the part of the person posting the photo. (On the other hand, with an international site, it would be impossible to consider every conceivable hurt that each picture might invoke! ).

We're just all here to have fun, anyway! So, don't sweat the small stuff...there are more than enough troubles of real consequence to be upset over.

I have struggled with weight issues- mostly just the body image issues a lot of women are faced with these days-but I have not been really overweight ever. I am usually the person who considers all those things- my intent was that I saw a hilarious picture that was pretty rude, but not totally inappropriate to put up as my avatar when after the holidays, I've probably only gained 10 lbs but feel like the woman in the picture. I have a very healthy sense of humor, and I didn't even think of it that way. I am sorry if I hurt anyone's feelings. The picture is funny though- and I will still be changing my avatar often ; ) Maybe I will post my real picture- I am kinda cute though, + I don't want anyone to bug me- already taken, lol

I was just a little taken aback by being removed from someone's friend list- honestly, when I got the invite from mysticriver7 I almost rejected it simply because of the extraneous God references on her page (and I haven't rejected ANYBODY yet who's asked to be my friend.) I am not the type to reject- even though I had second thoughts about accepting this particular one. I've got nothing against God or people who love God. This is a weird and sometimes scary or devastating kind of experience to be alive, and I commend people for finding their peace with it through religion or philosophy. I just get annoyed when people stick it in your face like they have a holy finger. I should have trusted my instincts.
I am just here to be on a food website. I like to share recipes, change my avatar often and have a good sense of humor. I don't want to create controversy, but since our site is international, as sparow pointed out, it would be difficult to work around each person's sensitivities. I have to deal with enough b.s. at work, so when I get to be home, I want to enjoy myself, not bicker about a picture or anything like that. I try not to be too self-important, but I am a human and I fail sometimes, well, a lot. Last time I checked we all do ; )

I was trying not to respond about this, but since there was so much chatter about it and STILL IS, I think I had to. This is my opinion. Other people have left their opinions, and have even schooled us on how we should be acting.

p.s. I am not o-mama, but she was my favorite foodie and I miss her.

When I started this chat, I didn't happen to check to see if MysticRiver was in this group!! I really didn't think she was, and I was just sharing my experience & wanted to see what other people thought of the incident and my former avatar. If I had bothered to look (wish I did) I probably would have left out the name of who insulted my picture. My intentions were not to start up this silliness. In hindsight, I shouldn't have been so quick to react, but I was a little confused and insulted at the time.

I just think that's kind of funny, but not in the laugh out loud sort of way.
