Kristopher...

I finally was able to get a screen shot of what I was trying to explain a few weeks ago that happens, only sometimes, when I do an ingredient search in recipes or bookmarks. It has happened in both, this time, it happened to be my own recipes page, while searching "chicken".

But it only happens *sometimes* correct? I just tried it again and its working, which means this is a going to be a difficult bug to track down. I'll add it to the list. Thanks Keni!

oh yes, only sometimes... and rarely. :) I don't expect it to be easy, and maybe even not get fixed, but I'm sorta... determined... and even though it had been weeks, I wanted to still letcha know what it was doing...well, that and I didn't want to feel like I was imagining it. :)

It was good to post that screenshot. That sort of thing really helps. We are doing bug "triage" right now so things like this will get done a bit later than others.

of course, as it should be...I am in no hurry to see it "fixed", cus it's a rare happening, anyway... but I was happy to be able to catch it for you... that's all about me, though, not because I want it fixed so bad. It's because I am damn near OCD. ;)

Thank you, as always, for your helpful, prompt responses. Better every day! (well, other than the no edit thing....;)

On a related note... any idea why when I search my recipes for "Rum", nothing comes up, but if I search "berry", I get my Rum Berry Crisp recipe?

and I do mean in my recipes list...not bookmarks...I remove my own recipes from my bookmarks...I don't need them there :)

Yeah, there is a technical reason why you aren't getting hits for that, and I would go into it, but eventually that limitation will be removed, so no bother.

  • keni 13 years ago said:
okay... can you even tell me if it's because it's rum? or anything else I can do to not have it happen if it's for other words, too...

or do I need to shut up about it? :p

Haha. No anything under 4 letters won't register (this is for performance reasons on our side). This is going to be fixed as we overhaul the profile pages (eventually), but for now its what we have. If you search by "rum" tag, it should work though.

Hi, I was a member of GR, but gave up!! Now I'm so glad to be back. The new site looks great, just hope it works better. We don't rate "forks" anymore, right? Do we rate recipes by how they seem , or after we've made them? Thanks, Ladychablis

When you comment on a recipe, Ladychablis, there will be an option to rate it. It will ask if you want to give a rating. I believe the point is meant to be to comment if you want, but don't actually RATE it til you've made it. That's the way I've always used the site, but most didn't. There are still some "oldies" who are rating without making it, maybe because they are just used to it, but I still prefer the intended way. But, then, like I said, that's always been how I've done it, anyway.

From one member to another, welcome back! :)

Me too Keni, never rated 'til I actually make it otherwise the rating system is worthless to me. I thought I saw a button to click on when you make comments that asked "did you make this recipe" but it does not seem to be there anymore. I thought that was a great idea as that would mean I could filter comments / reviews of recipes that were not actually tried.

Hey breezy...yeah, I liked that question, too, and I've missed "rating" twice, I think, since they changed it, again. :) And, with no edit feature, that just means I have extra comments....one with a rating that I forgot to add the first time. hehe

I still like it better than he forks set up(even though I liked the forks better than stars, cus it's different), but we'll see if this is where it settles.

Hey guys, you are spot on about the ratings. In fact, we are going to clear out all old ratings from people who didn't actually try the recipe.

If something looks good, leave a nice note saying as much for the uploader, but rating is reserved for dishes you've actually made.

I think this change is a great idea. I was one who rated some recipes before I tried them because I thought I was an experienced enough cook to recognize a great recipe. Then after I had rated a cake recipe with 5 forks I made the cake. It was terrible. Something was very wrong with the recipe & I never did figure out what. The recipe was expensive to make as well. I did go back & mention the problem in hopes someone else would not waste ingredients basted on my rating. A good lesson learned. Love the change.
I must say too, that when I first signed on after the changes, I hated what I was seeing because the old site was so unique compared to others & I loved it. Now I see more of what you are doing & what you have planned, I'm slowly loving GR all over again. Great job Kris.

That's fantastic about the unmade ratings, Kristopher. I only rate recipes I have made as well as was so happy when Lillian created the "I Made It" group for those of us who use the site in that manner. Thanks for clearing that up! Thanks again for all your work. The site is much improved!

Hooray - Kristopher. The untried, well meant support of friends' recipes via ratings of "high fives" lost any credibility and value. Thanks for clearning that up.

Yeah, it's really the only site I've seen that on... I know people can still just rate it, anyway, but I think fewer will.

Looking forward to it... still liked the forks better, though ;)

Yeah, it isn't a "easy" problem to fix because we most certainly don't want to strike good quality reviews. But this is one of our main bullet points to work on looking forward. We really want to get this place focused sharing and finding the absolute best recipes possible.

Thats so great to hear Kristopher! One thing I noticed about the ratings are that if you leave more than one comment on a recipe you've made, it keeps adding your rating to every comment! Is that just a bug?
    Flag
  • kristopher 13 years ago said:
Yeah, its kind of a "display bug". You still only get a single rating, it just shows up wherever you comment on that recipe. On the one hand, it is nice while reading a comment to see that this person made the dish, but it is also a bit visually misleading, as it looks like there are more reviews than there truly are. So we need to brainstorm and figure out a better way to handle this.

In recipezaar when you click on rate or comment recipe on a recipe that you have already done this on, it brings up your old comment with all the text there and allows you to edit the comment to include any new information. Maybe you can do something like that. It keeps the number of reviews accurate and allows someone to edit.

Just came over to the Whine Dept. to report that my 1st upload took, I edited, and was asked "save changes"? and i said YES. Next, the revised recipe was posted, and the changes are not There. is this one of those Glitches?

Reading this list of commentary reminds me of reading A.A. Milne's Christopher Robin and Winnie the Pooh's conversations! refreshing!!

Why is going for the BEST Recipes the the GOAL? I believe that the best recipe is one that is easy, 2 ingredients, good warm and ice cold.

in mho get the software squared away, and let everyone know that this is the remodelling stage. there are many many walls to paint, still.

Kristopher, are the yellow robot and you one and the same?
