An Emergency

  • lilliancooks 13 years ago
I won't be around much for a while! My Mom was rushed to the ER today with seizures. She seems to be stable but they admitted her and we're not sure how long she'll be there. So all my time will be spent at her bedside til she goes home....and then some!

Please keep the group going while I'm gone...you know, chat it up!

    Thanks! =)

My Mom is doing SO MUCH better! I thought we were going to lose her 5 days ago! She was having lots of seizures and she also had a 102 degree fever...which the Drs. don't know where it came from. We are not happy with the hospital she's at right now (its a General Hospital), so today we're moving her to a cutting edge Neuro Hospital. We think her seizures are under control. She seems alert and back to normal. Two good things that came out of all of this is the fact that after her last grand mal seizure, Sunday morning, her hearing was restored to what it was BEFORE her brain tumor!!! And so is her appetite!!! Its a miracle!!!

Thank you soooo much everyone, for all the kind words and prayers!

I can't wait to get back to normal...lots of stress and worry right now! We'll see what the new hospital says.

I hope to be back on here soon! I'll have to read about what you have all been making when I get more time!

We got some very bad news from the new hospital...they did an MRI which showed that my Moms tumor is back! It must have grown very quickly because it wasn't there a month ago! She is home now and we are all taking turns staying by her side because she must be watched constantly. Me and my sister are bringing her for more tests on Thursday and we'll be talking to her Neuro Oncologist. We have LOTS of questions for him.

Thank you so much everyone! Your prayers and well wishes are very comforting!

What a roller coaster ride its been lately! The Neuro Oncologist thinks its not the tumor growing back! He seems to think its just scar tissue thats forming around the biopsy site! I hope he's correct! He wants to do a PET scan Monday...so we'll see! The doctors have my Mom on extremely high doses of seizure medicine and its making her kind of loopy! I hope we'll be able to reduce that a little so that she can get back to normal. I guess we'll have to wait til we see the results of the PET scan first! But at least now we have some hope that she'll be okay! We should know more by Tuesday! Keeping my fingers crossed!

Thanks Pleclare, Lovebreezy, Frankieanne and Lobster! Yes...one day at a time!

Thanks everyone! I'm hanging in there...thank you Karlyn! =)

The PET scan yesterday showed no re-growth! We did a little happy dance after hearing the news! So it must be scar tissue that caused the seizures. We also decreased her seizure medicine a little last night because the dose was just too high! It was making her very tired and off balance. Today she seems a little more alert and walking better.

We will probably be bringing her back to Sloan soon, so that the doctors who treated her tumor can have a look at her.

I miss this place and everyone here! Thank you for the prayers...they're working! =)

This has not been a good year for us! Yesterday my 17 year old daughter had a grand mal seizure! The seizure was only half the problem...when she fell she smashed her mouth on her bedroom floor and knocked out her front tooth and cut her lips up really bad! They were able to put her tooth back in...and she has a retainer that they glued to her surrounding teeth thats holding her tooth in place til it re-attaches. It was her birthday yesterday! We thought she out grew her seizure disorder because she hasn't had one in 4 years! So this is very upsetting for us in so many ways! I wasn't even home when it happened because I was sleeping at my Mom's house...taking care of her! I was able to get to the hospital just as they were putting her tooth back in and stitching her lips. We have lots of different doctor appointments for the upcoming week.

Now my time on here is limited even more!

I hate to be such a downer...I hope to have some good news someday soon! I'm trying to keep positive but its not that easy these days! God is really knocking me around lately!

    Thanks for listening everyone!

I'll try to pop in as much as I can! Keep cooking up a storm everyone!

Oh Lillian!! So sorry, that just sucks!! Hope your daughter is fine soon, and she doesn't lose the tooth. Glad you were able to get there for her. Would the seizure have anything to do with all the stress that has been going on lately?? Good to hear that things are doing better for your Mom. Hopefully things will settle down soon back to normal. Hang in there, one day at a time!

Thank you everyone! Its been quiet here since friday...yay! I LOVE QUIET!

Yes, Lobster you are so right! Stress plays a big role in seizures! Lack of sleep seems to trigger it too! My 17 year old was a little nervous about school starting and also was missing me because I was with my Mom so much. She also has a nervous stomach which was keeping her up at night...so she wasn't sleeping too well the past few weeks. I know it could be much worse...some children have much more frequent seizures. Both my kids have seizures. Its very strange, because seizures are not in our family background! We go as far back as great grandparents, on both sides!

I'm just glad she hasn't had anymore since thursday! Whats sad is that we've been weening her off her seizure medicine for the past year because we thought she out grew the seizures. Now we have to slowly put her back on the dose she was on last year...and we can't ween her off again for another 3 years!

Yes, one day at a time...and what ever will be, will be! This is what I have to keep telling myself to keep from loosing it!

I'm doing another little happy dance right now!

My Mom's doctor from Sloan called this afternoon. He said that her tumor has not returned! The seizures happen to people who had tumors! So we'll keep her on the seizure medicine and he wants to do MRI's every 2 months to keep an eye on things. we still have to be with her at all times.

Now we're just trying to figure a schedule where she'll sleepover my house and my sisters house a couple of nights each week, plus she can be in her own home, with an Aide, 3 days per week. It'll be nice having her in my home a few nights each week! I have lots of great recipes, from all my foodie friends, to try out on her! lol!

Thank you everyone for all your prayers...they worked! =)

You guys are awesome.... I happened upon your message here Lillian while looking for different and varied meals for my Mom and Gpa who I'm responsible for. They have a bunch of dietary limitations so cooking is well, creatively interesting at best.
I'm very glad however despite the bumpy road with all it's pot holes, twists and turns things are as best as can be expected for you and your fam.

Hi CCC...thank you so much! I thinks its wonderful that you're caring for your Mom and Grandpa! You don't see too much of that these days! My Mom said that growing up in Italy it was the norm for the family to take care of the elders. I hope all is going well for your Mom and Grandpa too!

Hely Lillian, sounds like things are heading in a "settled" direction! Hope things do settle down a bit so you can come down from "red" alert to something more civilized like "yellow" alert!! Take it easy, one day at a time, and remember to breath once and awhile!! Hugs and kisses XXXXOOOOOO!!

Funny you say that, they are my Italian side of the fam. Well unfortunately Gpa had to go to the hospital yesterday and he's there for we don't know how long. He's in kidney and heart failure and they don't know why. The man is 88, he's miserable because he focuses on all his friends, and my grandma's death. He's cheated death 3 times in the past 2/3 years. I don't have a good feeling this time. I think all his meds which are keeping him alive are also killing him.... Not so much you can do. I'd either like him to recover and maintain a good quality of life, or God is merciful and allows him a peaceful passing. I've stressed to the further away family that if they'd like to see him they better get in here sooner rather than later. I don't want to see any of them having regrets.
It sucks but it all is what it is. It's not a surprise, it's the circle of life!
On the plus side I recreated my Mom's hamburg pie. Took a bit of a cross between hamburg pie and that Puerto Rican Plantain casserole stuff (which is very excellent). It smells good! It's still bubbling away in there and making a HUGe mess.
Thanks Lillian you're very lovely. Let's Keep on Trucking along aye?

Awwww...Thank you Lobster! Yes, I do have to remember to breath! Sometimes it feels like I'm suffocating! Hugs and Kisses to you to! XOXOXO

I'm so sorry to hear about your Grandpa CCC! I totally agree about the meds...they fix one thing and damage another! But sometimes theres no other way but to take the meds! My father-in-law has had the same situation. He's only 77 and will be on kidney dialysis this year because of all the meds he's been on for the past 25 years! Your kidneys can only handle so much! I won't even take an aspirin unless I'm about to climb the walls from headache pain! Thankfully I rarely get headaches!

And I agree with you...its better to have a our loved ones pass peacefully than to stay around and suffer!

I hope God is listening to you. And I hope that your family members are listening and get there soon too!

Thank you CCC! You hang in there!
