Enchilada Sauce

  • pointsevenout 10 years ago
    Recipe by Pinchmysalt: Enchilada Sauce
My first homemade enchilada sauce. It has a sweet component. I backed off on the heat by 1/3rd so it wouldn't be too spicy for mother. And did a 50/50 split with chili powder and Ancho Chile Powder
This is going in a spinach chicken enchilada casserole.
    No pic.

That's cool Points. I bookmarked that. How would you say the homemade compares to one you've purchased in the store before?

There are some ingredients in there I would have never thought would be in enchilada sauce! I'm glad you made this, because I would have been to scared too! Now we know it's good though :)

Maybe it hid some of the heat, as mother did no complaining at all.

I made a stupid cooking mistake today too! I made apple squares and they came out a very weird texture and kind of gummy. I could not figure out what the heck I did wrong! I just looked at the recipe again and realized I forgot the baking soda! LOL! Oh well, they do taste good though..despite the texture

Made this recipe again, using the proper amount of sugar. :) Still backed off the chili powders by 1/3rd. Doesn't taste too spicy.
Recipe doesn't say how much salt to use. I put in 1/8th teaspoon.
Going into another enchilada recipe that I morphed from a tostada recipe. I'm sure mother won't eat the tostadas. Going to make the casserole more realistic with homemade corn tortillas.
