Rainy Day Tuesday!

  • chuckieb 14 years ago
Good Morning Everyone! I didn't want to get up this morning. We had the windows open and there is a gentle rain falling on our metal roof and it was just so cuddly! But....I did get up and am now having my first cup of coffee. Am heading into town this morning with Jim and Benjamin. Jim has to head back to work after our Wine Tasting Weekend and Benjamin has his course at the University this evening. I need to do some clothes shopping and pick up a little something for my Girlfriend's birthday. Am also going to meet my friend downtown for coffee this afternoon. The rain will put a bit of a damper on the day but I'll bring my umbrella.
The three of us had a lovely weekend.
We got to Picton about an hour before the Wine Tour was set to start. They brought us to four wineries. The first "Karlo Estates" was our favourite. (Pic below). Usually in wine tastings they give you two or three samples but this winery had our group (there were nine of us in total) sit in their lovely sunroom in the back and they had us try every wine they made. Plus they gave us little tidbits of yummies to eat along with each wine to enhance the tasting. There was some awfully good cheese being handed about. The woman doing the tasting was very knowledgable and told us a lot of information which was really nice. And then we still had three more wineries to visit! I was actually surprised Benjamin made it all the way through as he is not used to drinking period. It was a beautiful day out and our tour guide escorted us to each place in a little tour van and carried out our purchases from each Vineyard and put them in a case for us in the back. We were very pampered and we had a lovely time. One of the wineries only did sparkling wine and that was fun. We picked up a nice bottle to keep for New Year's Eve.
And then back to the Waring House Inn for dinner. Four courses with wine matching. Benjamin had to halt the wine at that point. He said "I just can't do it anymore". LOL! We had a wonderful Butternut Apple Bisque to start and then a spring mix salad with a little almond flavoured square baked thing in the middle, with cranberries and a vinagrette. It was awesome. The main course was a venison and a lamb chop done to perfection over a Cheesy risotto and fresh veggies on the side. Maple Creme Brulee for dessert. It was wonderful.
Had a great drive home too. Took the Glenora ferry and drove by the water for a ways. Stopped in at the Hotel Kenney by Jones Falls and the Rideau Canal for a lovely lunch. It was a great weekend and all three of us thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Hi Dahlia in Israel! How cool is that? Where in Israel are you? Jim was there once years ago on business.
Thanks for the Cornish Game Hen recipe link Tina. It looks wonderful. Hope you are feeling all better this morning? Stop scratching!
That's excellent that Hil had a great first day at work. Good for her!
No cooking for me this evening. Jim and I are going to go grab dinner out while we wait for Benjamin's class to finish so we can pick him up right after. I'd also really love to go and find the two light fixtures I need to hang over the Kitchen peninsula.
    Have a great day everybody!

Janet, sounds like such fun!! We have always talked about going to Napa Valley for a wine tasting trip...

Corinne, have a nice shopping trip...how hot is it supposed to get in your area? It's going to be mid 70's today here...just right!

Tina, sure hope your feeling better..thank you for the cornish game hen marinade link! Sounds wonderful...

Jett, salmon patties sound so good:) I haven't made those in such a long time!!

When Dad went to the ER they inserted something up his nose to control the bleeding, I can't remember for the life of me what it's called...craft big time...anyway, yesterday his Dr removed it and no bleeding ..(so far) they did a test to check his blood thinner med level and it might be because of that...who knows...he's doing better and thank all of you for your concern!!! You all are just the absolute best:)

    Oh boy, dinner...I don't know!!

Rick wants a sponge cake for his birthday...I have never made one..I will search for a recipe and just hope for the best!!!

Janet that dinner has me drooling. So entirely my style. You lucky girl.

Dahlia all this jet setting must be wearing you out. Such an exciting adventure you are having.

Jett you made me think of one of my all time favorite recipes Original Nilla Banana Pudding . so totally not on my diet but who could not love this recipe.

Haven't completely decided on dinner yet. It will include the Atkins Cucumber, Tomato And Green Onion Salad I made last night. We have a great batch of mint just now and can't let that go to waste nor the excellent cucumber from Shaolin Gardens. I also added a couple of tomatillos to the mix. I'll probably make a dinner salad with it and some chopped baked chicken thighs I have leftover. Poor Mr. SuchAFuss will be on his own again. Perhaps he would like a dinner salad too. I shall inquire.

    Hi Jett.
Laura, you mentioned making asparagus soup.....I've used the method from this post but used asparagus instead of spinach with very good results.
    Cream Of Spinach Soup
Got all our shopping done and boy, am I beat!!!....Think I'll do turkey club sandwiches for supper with some kind of pasta salad...Too hot to cook, inside or out!!!....That's my story and I"m sticking to it.

    Hi Guys! (Well, Gals! lol)

Janet, sounds like an absolutely fabulous weekend! Love the pic from the winery, and what a cool way for them to do a wine tasting, huh? That's awesome. Sounds like the whole trip was just perfect. LOL at Benj putting a stop to the wine. That's funny! Hope you are having good luck with your shopping today.

Hope you are having good luck too, Corinne!

Jett, I love me some vanilla puddin! mmmm And salmon patties too!

Glad to hear that your Dad is doing better, Marie. It can be really scary when they are on blood thinner! Have you decided on dinner? I'm sure the cake will turn out great.

Laura, that's a great recipe! Almost the same as my mom's homemade banana pudding, except hers has some butter in it, too. MMMMm my favorite. If it doesn't have homemade pudding, then it's NOT banana pudding! lol

We are having a gloomy, rainy day too. I have decided on
    Fiesta Lasagna Ole
    for dinner tonight.

Janet, Pleased you had a pleasant time at the wine tours. It is such a beautiful area and glad you took the Ferry on the way back. When I lived in Belleville we liked to take Hwy 2 to Ottawa bc it is a much more scenic drive by the water and the Ferry is always fun. Your dinner sounds to die for! The butternut apple bisque, salad, lamb and venison combinations with a maple crème brule for dessert! Wow! I can't tell you how many times I have eaten at Kenney's either but is was always good there. Enjoy your day and hope you find some clothes, a gift for your friend and fixtures you will love:-) LOL Ben at least knew when to stop drinking:-)

Tina, Thank you for the asparagus link they have some really cool stuff on it:-) I hope you don't overdo it today and can survive through the week in less pain. That's a lot of hours you are putting in but you will like it when you get your check:-)

Dahlia, Yeah! Great to hear you are in Israel now and made it out of Amsterdam safely:-) Have an absolutely perfect time!

    MarieC, Glad you stopped by:-)

Lori, Cool teapot and things you scored at those sales and Bravo to Hil for getting more hours already!!!

Corinne, How did the casserole turn out? LOL I get beat shopping too! I love turkey club sandwiches!!!

Jett, Happy National Vanilla Pudding Day! I love salmon patties and they would go good with rice.

Marie, Good to hear your Dad sounds better. My Dad was on blood thinners for over 40 years and they had to watch him like a hawk. We found when the weather gets warmer he had to cut back on blood thinners bc blood thins out in warmer weather. He always had cauterize sp? stuff to stop any bleeding if he was cut. The sponge cake recipe looks like a good one. Good luck with it:-)

Laura, Thanks for the Original Nilla Banana Pudding Yum! I haven't had that in years!

It was a crazy weekend around here with the garage sale and we ended out going to our neighbours for a BBQ Saturday night. Stayed up late and drank too much. Sunday went to Den's sisters' place outside Ottawa. They just moved into a gorgeous new house so we brought a house warming gift of a basket of cheeses, jams, spices, fruits and things with a couple of bottles of wine. We went to the Shallows Grill for dinner and I had a Wild Mushroom Stuffed Puff Pastry and Lobster Stuffed Ravioli on a bed of garlic rice with saffron scented aiole julianned veggies. They had tea carts full of lovely desserts and I had a chocolate and orange ganache filled crepe which was heavenly. Then we went to his nephews to see our cute new addition Cassidy and she is so sweet. Stayed at his sister Patti's and came home yesterday afternoon. Did laundry and finally made the spaghetti sauce and had prime rib for dinner last night. By then I was pooped! We had a great time visiting but it is good to be home. Just heading out to pick up an order at HHW and bring home some mulch and soil. Dinner will probably be leftovers.
    Later gators!
    A great day to everyone!
