Saturday's Salzburger Nockerl!

  • chuckieb 8 years ago
Good Morning Everyone! I was stretching it this morning trying to think of a thread title let me tell you! :) Bwa hahahahah......
Never heard of this before....a Salzburger Nockerl.
Wikipedia tells me that it is a souffle served as a dessert, a specialty of of the Austrian city of Salzburger. The sweet dumplings are made of egg yolk, flour, sugar, and vanilla, mixed into a thin dough. Then egg white is whisked until it is stiff and mixed carefully with the dough. Afterwards dumplings (Nocken, diminutive: Nockerl, cf. Gnocchi) are formed and baked on low heat in an oven.
Salzburger Nockerl are always freshly prepared and served warm with powdered sugar, sometimes with a raspberry sauce. Like any soufflé, the preparation requires a bit of practice.
I wouldn't turn one down if one was to be served to me for breakfast this morning....jus' sayin'.
Hope your friends arrived safe and sound yesterday Karen. Have a great time at Silver Dollar City.
And how is Spain this fine afternoon Don? :) We're supposed to get temperatures going up to 30C/86F this coming week, so I can pretend I'm in Spain I guess. No sand, but I make a mean Sangria. :)
Good Luck on your job interview today Laurie!
Is it this morning you're having breakfast with Gordon Tina? How is Hurricane Erika doing? Yikes!
How did Sophia's Open House at the school go Shona?
A big wave out to Joce, Marie, Michelle, Michelle B. and anyone else I've missed.
Just about to rustle up some breakfast. I think Poached eggs on toast with fried tomatoes may be in order if I can't have the Nockerl. :)
Don't have to cook dinner this evening as we've been invited to dinner by a guy Jim used to work with and his wife. Should be fun.
    Have a great day everybody!

Never heard of Salzburger Nockrl! They look and sound good though! Like a fluffy pancake, soufflé style!
The open house was great, Sophia is so excited to be at her new school! She even gets a little locker! The school use to be the only school in town up to grade 8. But now with the towns population tripling in the last ten years it now goes from grade 2-5. So the grade 3's get lockers now. They built the new highschool just before we moved here so Colter was one of the first kids to go to it (grade 6-12) And Sophia's other school she was in- in grade 2 -will now go from preschool to grade one. (small schools now!)
We played outside (it's a new playground for her) for 5 minutes but the smoky air was too much for me and my throat was closing in so we left right away! Today we finally see the sun!! And blue sky, most of the smoke seems gone now, yay!
Enjoy your dinner out this evening Janet! :)
Your dinner looks good too Marie, I haven't made ribs in years!! Pete would love it if I did! haha :)
    Hi back Joce!! :)
I want to make one of Don's Curry/Indian dishes, but haven't found the garam masala. We checked two stores. The stuff I had was way too old so I threw it out. I have everything to make my own garam masala except the cloves. That would be easier to get though! Homemade Garam Masala
I was thinking this: Dqs Jalfrezi Style Chicken Curry But if I don't get the garam masala then this Tandoori Chicken Nirvana

I like the idea of smaller schools there, Shona. She will love having her own locker too! Glad the smoke is subsiding. I keep forgetting did Pete get his certificate for his mechanic thingy yet?

Hi, been a bit busy here today -- first posted a few new récipes then thoughtnI was the only one here for a while -- scary -- like the Marie celeste --- non-one here. -- then did last night --Nadine not appear hope all ok -- but don't want a new post here to miss as we are just beginning to build ---- WE will get better. never Heard of the salzburger thing but with soufflés dangerous to cook ---- love watching the ambition n say master chef and oops soufflé deflated ---- shame!!!
Now temperaturas hers not bad low 30's with a touch humidity -- OK for August --- Don't do a Sangria récipe because there really isn' t one - Julio. Our barman --- called Hot Julio b=in Brit tele programme about campers mixes a beauty, including brandy, vodka, and various other bits -- no lemonade nonsense here - by the way Julio is the ladies man --- and deserves it. -- the ladies all love him !!! - actually he's also a great barman!!!- tonight had meal fillet steak == roast new potatoes -- simple salad and salsa verde. Have a great day all cheers

Lol Don, I actually make a good souffle. I learned to make them when I was younger and no you never open the oven when they are cooking! Hot Julio sounds like a good one. A good Barman makes all the difference. You meal sounds like it was delicious!
I am having pan fried cod with a salad and mushroom risotto for dinner. They had fresh cod in today and I was delighted!

I love the puffy pancake dessert. Sounds delicious and fun.
Yes, I did meet with Gordon for breakfast. We had a lovely long visit. I had eggs over easy, grits with cheese, sausage and marble rye toast. He had a soft veggie omelette. Olivia went with us. She was a zombie. We have the Ty guy's ashes.

Have fun at your dinner with friends, Janet.
Marie, happy to hear you have some rain. I promised the kid ribs. One day next week.
Joce, nice to see you dear.
Don. you have some lovely recipes. The Salsa Verde sounds wonderful. I may just fix a small steak for my dinner and make a version of a salsa verde..
Shona, so happy to hear the open house was a success and you got a peek at blue skies. I am going to purge my spice rack at the last moment. Where ever we move my kitchen will be much smaller.

Hurricane Erika has broken apart over the mountains of Hispaniola. Then Cuba will weaken it further. The current path will bring the storm up hugging the west coast of Florida, problematic because of the rains. We might lose power intermittently. I have gas for the grill and can cook outside. Olivia is getting some bags of ice to pack in the freezer.

The Toasted Monkey is having their first Annual Luau today. Fire dancers at sunset. Three bands, raffles and liquor reps selling shots. Scotty has a whole roast pig as "display" and then he roasted a bunch of pork butts for pulled pork sandwiches. I find a single pig for display rather funny. Liv is wearing a Fred special Hawaiian shirt.

She has a second interview at Bon Aire tomorrow. She joined a beach volleyball team. She said playing in the sand is a tough workout. Her legs hurt today. 2 hours of volleyball will do that to you.

I'm exhausted. I can barely keep my eyes open. I'm in laundry mode and have the floors to swiffer. Bummed that the new sandals I ordered are too small. I'm destined to wear flip flops forever until the leg swelling decreases.

Karen, hope Silver Dollar City is fun.
Laurie, Good luck on the job interview.
Michelle and Michelle B, have a great weekend.

Glad you got some rain to temper things in your area Marie! Your dinner sounds wonderful! I love your potato salad. Glad Rick's feeling better. Enjoy your day!
Hi Joce! Your dinner sounds fabulous.
So sweet that Sophia is pumped about her own locker Shona! :) Yum on either of those two curry dishes. They sound wonderful.
If no one has started the post do feel free to do so Don. Sometimes people are just lurking around waiting for someone else to do it. :) It would be nice if Nadine, Motherann, Cindy and whoever else wanted to join in would. The more the merrier and it's always fun to see what everybody is up to each day. Julio's Sangria sounds excellent as does your dinner. Your Salsa Verde recipe sounds delicious.
Sounds like you're doing some good Hurricane prep work Tina. Fun @ the Toasted Monkey Luau. Awwww on Liv wearing one of Fred's Hawaiian shirts. :) Shall cross my fingers her interview goes well tomorrow. Good luck with the house work.
I got a ton of the lawn mowed and I planted 30 more iris bulbs that my friend gave me last week. Just finished lunch and now I think we're going to go for a soak in the Hot Tub.

Hi all! I have never heard of Salzburger Nockerl before Janet, sounds super yummy :) Have a good time tonight!

Yum on your dinner tonight Marie! Glad Rick is feeling better today, I know what you mean about aches and pains the older you get :P :P

Hi Joce! I haven't had cod in forever, sounds like a delicious dinner :)

Go great that Sophia a good open house Shona! Our schools are pretty broken up too. Pre-k-2nd, 3rd-5th, 6th-8th, and 9th-12th. Cool that she get's a locker this year!

Your dinner tonight sounded great Don! That salsa verde looks like a good one.

Glad you got Ty's ashes back and had a lovely breakfast Tina. That is smart to get some ice bags in the freezer, hopefully if you do lose power it won't be for long. Wow the luau at the Toasted Monkey sounds like it will be a blast, wish I could go lol! Cool that Olivia is playing beach volleyball!

Briauna had Softball practice this morning that lasted 2 ½ hours! I had to leave with Caiden for a bit because we had a coach meeting for Caiden's T-ball. Came back thinking they would be about done and we were there for another hour. It was hot! Caiden got the same coach as Spring ball (yay) and the Coach kind of appointed me the Team Mom. So I'm in charge of getting parent shirts ordered, scheduling snacks, getting a banner made, setting up a chat app we can all communicate and SO ON! I don't mind though, I'm just nervous I'm going to mess up or something lol. I also have to be in the dug out every game making sure the kids are ready when it's there turn to bat. SO the bad thing though is that I am going to miss a bunch of Bri's games since they both have all there games on Sundays. :( :( I will get it all figured out though, just crossing fingers games will be at different times, can I get that lucky? Lol!

Going to the gym to work out in just a bit. Took out some spinach fontina and roasted garlic chicken sausages and I will probably just slice it and saute it with a bunch of chopped veggies and call it dinner. Hope everyone is having a great day!

Michelle, those sausages sound delicious. I love fontina. Oh dear on the two team dilemma. I hope they are scheduled so you can spend time with Bri. Long practice today, phew. I have football and baseball tonight. I'll be flipping channels.

I forgot to pull out a steak to defrost. I'm going to fix a salmon sandwich with a garlic yogurt dill sauce. I might get fancy and grill the bun. LOL I have an avocado and that might be tasty with the salmon....a few slivers of red onion. I need a veggie of some kind. I do have some black beans leftover, seems a little too heavy for salmon.

Joce, I have to say fresh cod is one of my favorite fruits de mer. And I'm addicted to the curried cod in coconut milk. It is enough spice to make my nose tingle. We have a new Indian restr that I want to try if I can convince Liv to go.

I have 4 dozen peanut butter cookies waiting for non-tropical storm Ericka. My grandmother always got super nervous over hurricanes and would bake cookies to calm her nerves. I loved her peanut butter cookies. It was cathartic to bake last night.

I've been invited to Indian Shores on Friday for a cocktail party to meet some fellow foodies. I want to take a hostess gift and I'm in a quandary. Sweet Polly is serving wines and a charcuterie platter. Emily Post says you should not take wine as a hostess gift because the hostess may feel obligated to serve your wine when she has her own wines planned. She has bad allergies so flowers are out. And these are serious foodie writers at the party. I'm a tad nervous. I am taking gourmet dog treats for her two dogs, Jeep and Molly. I have a lovely peacock teal and white dress, but no shoes. ???? Flip flops are not appropriate. .I think I need ti try Zappos for shoes, again.

Anyone want to come help fold these stupid sheets??

Yay, got the garam masala! I haven't made curry in so long, I am looking forward to it very much. I have a back up pasta for the kids, just in case they don't like it!

Hey Joce, Pete did one test now he needs 3 more before he gets his interprovincial ticket. His boss is going to pay for it though, yeah!

Hi Tina! wow, volleyball is a good sport, and in the sand even tougher! Olivia will be in awesome shape after a few more practises, good for her! When I figure skated I played tennis in the off season to keep fit :)

Wonder Mom Michelle! You are awesome to be so outgoing, I shy away from those kind of duties, lol, Good for you! :)
