Hi, First, woke up at 6am and couldn't get back to sleep. So had to get up
At about 8, Took the car and diva to the - about 10 mins walk - as going somewhere after --- got to beach car park entrance and the clutch went.
Still had walk as too early for my mechanic --- About 9 got home ---- couldn't do errand -- no car
Shower cold -- gas bottle had run out
Got mechanic and phoned breakdown truck on Insurance --- took them 2 hours to get here
Turned on Laptop --- no internet --- atmospherics
Have had to reboot router 3 times so far today --- pain ---
So What's next!!!!! the suspense is growing
I'll settle for peace and tranquillity.
Tonight a fishy treat. - if all goes to plan!!!
    Kedgeree

Have a great day everyone and hope for the best. Cheers

Good Morning Don! Well....maybe not in your case but I hope it rights itself as the day goes on. :) I figure you had three main things go wrong...clutch, gas bottle and internet so that means you've had your fair share of bad luck and it's someone else's turn. :) Your Kedgeree recipe sounds really good. Can you buy smoked haddock readily in the store/fish market?
    Hi Karen B!
A little cooler here this morning and supposed to be cooler and sunny all week. Fall has arrived right on schedule. (My favourite time of year)
Haven't yet thought what to make for dinner this evening.
This morning we are heading over to our friend's to load up some more fire wood from a tree they took down but want clearing away. I may stain the Hot Tub deck this afternoon.
That is very fun Karen that you ran into the people who you bought your house from and even more fun that you're going to have them over for lunch. They'll enjoy seeing all the changes you've done!
Hope Sophia has a blast at Brownies this evening Shona. I loved Brownies when I was a little girl.
    Have a great day everybody!

Well, Don, it can only get better! Haha!

Cars are a necessary evil. Mine refused to start after we pumped gas 40 miles from home a few weeks ago. Had to have it towed. Which is a pain, because it is a 4 wheel drive vehicle. Sigh.

Goodness Don, what is a frustrating day indeed. Kedgeree sounds avsolutely delicious. I like the hard boiled egg garnish.

I haven't decided on dinner yet. I am going to get celery and onions to make a pot of soup, turkey noodle. Olivia won't be home, so I need a solo meal. Maybe some pierogis and kielbasa. I love those frozen pasta pockets of cheesy potato, so easy to fix.

I hope all will have a good day, free of frustrating delays and irritating mishaps.

    Hi, Thank you ladies ----
Chuckleb -- No can't buy fresh smoked haddock in Spain -- just a very inferior frozen Brand from a British style chain.
Gibralter is only an houur away and Chris occasionally with a friend gets a bus for a day out there -- It's British with a British Supermarket -- she buys up as much fresh as she can and also smoked makerel. Then I freeze for future use like tonight.
She watched Downton last night --- said she enjoyed it. Me, I read a book -- so no cliping. Cheers

SP Janet. Good luck on the firewood trip. We have a bunch of it stacked behind the garage for use in the wood burning stove this winter.

The people we are having over are very down-to-earth and the salt of the earth type. It was good seeing them. I have run into several people we haven't seen for ages, while shopping at good old "Wally World." Ha ha!

Was given a bunch of banana peppers so bought green peppers at WalMart and hope to use my new electric water bath canner to make green pepper jelly! Yippee!

    Hi Tina!

It is supposed to be 84 degrees Saturday - was thinking of chili for lunch but maybe not. I will have to look thru warm-weather options and go from there. No rain expected for the next 10 days, only a bit over a tenth of an inch the other day -- typical September weather. Maybe an appy of cream cheese with green pepper jelly over it, and crackers or celery sticks to spread? Hmmm. Now for the main course.........still debating.

    Good morning:)

Wow Don..what a day you have had...hope everything works out! I noticed a lot of your recipes have been made by others..would you mind adding those recipes to the "I Made It" group? We like to keep track of recipes made and reviewed...Thanks:)

    Hi Karen B..welcome to ODD:)

Janet, cool on the firewood..it IS almost time for cozy fires in the fireplace, isn't it! Fall/Winter is my most favorite time of the years as well..sure hope El Nino reaches us this Winter..I heard that it will more than likely MISS Northern California! WHAT???? We need the rain!
BTW, I made the Andersen's Split Pea Soup (The recipe link I posted a day or 2 ago) and it was delish..I just used my blender..didn't need a food mill!

Karen, green pepper jelly sounds delicious! I'll have to check to see if you have the recipe posted! OH just saw where you serve it with cream cheese and crackers..yum!

Tina dear! Your perogies remind me of the recipe you have posted which we loved Pierogi Lasagna Ala Mr Food..I need to make that again real soon!

Hi Joce:) How are things in your neck of the woods dear lady:)

Might have leftover spaghetti for dinner..I don't know for sure yet!

I envy you the Turkey Noodle soup simmering all day Tina! Mmmmml....Perogies and kielbasa also sounds wonderful.
Cool on Gibralter only being an hour away from you Don! Envy Chris getting to see Downton already!
How fun on making green pepper jelly Karen! Do take pictures to show us!
NOM on the pea soup Marie. I bet it hit the spot. I do actually have a food mill downstairs. I think I've only used it once. LOL.
    Have decided on
Barbecue Chicken In Kaffir Lime Leaves
for dinner this evening. Some of Dahlia's
    Egg Rolls
on the side. I have a ton still in the freezer and should start using them up. I have a bit of Kimchi in the fridge also to use up and also some leftover edamame. That'll do it.
Got about a 1/2 load of firewood in the trailer. Only took a half hour. Heading out to stain.

OK Karen..I guess you don't have the jelly recipe posted..it probably requires "canning" correct? :-) I haven't canned anything in ages! Let us know which recipe you decide on...I'm intrigued:)

I want your dinner Janet! Yes, the pea soup did hit the spot!

Slow cookers are my friend. Soup is on. Olivia is my delivery girl. She and Scotty are going fishing this afternoon, hopefully we will score some fresh fish. I have a saute pan on super low cooking onions for my pierogis. I barely slept last night and I'm going to crash early.

Marie, hmmm, I have to make spaghetti and meatballs soon. Fred's kind of comfort food and I just don't think of it. He would always ask for it. Olivia saw Michael Symon making Pastitsio (SP?) and asked if I have ever made it. Once ages ago. She has requested it next week when she is home for dinner.

Staining a deck sounds to industrious for me, Janet. Dahlia's egg rolls are so good.

Nice on Liv and Scotty going fishing Tina. I'm excited to hear if they catch anything!
LOL @ deck staining being industrious. It went well and quickly as it was just an extra coat. Also did two Adirondack chairs, two ottomans and the front of Jim's garden shed. Time for lunch now but since I'm in the 'mode' I think I may do some staining touchups on the two front house decks as well. It's a perfect day to stain. Not too hot and a nice breeze blowing.
I saw a Bald Eagle fly overhead this morning. So gorgeous!
Jim is working on some eavestrough stuff getting set for all the fall leaves to come down.

Marie - guess it would have helped to include the recipe - My non-FST mind was at work again. Sigh. It is Mixed Pepper Jelly. I will probably use it but only have sweet green peppers, not yellow, so it will be a bit different. Except that dratted one-ingredient-missing fairy (who I EVICTED from my pantry) sent her third cousin twice removed, the two-ingredients-short fairy, to substitute so I am needing sugar and pectin. Sigh!

Janet you are far too industrious. -- We have one pair of bald eagles 6 miles away and I hope they stay there. Very pretty, majestic critters.Gorgeous. Beautiful. Illegal to shoot in MO one unless you want a fine of over $2K. I would never harm one. But - they are birds of prey. Ugh! -- Great horned owls are worse by far. Also protected and fortunately for them, hard to find, since a lot of farmers around here don't like losing their puppies . kittens - chicks - etc. to the dive-bombing critter-snatchers. End of raptor rant.

I am in the sun room relaxing for a bit. Windows are open and a nice breeze is wafting inside. Ahhh! I need to get into my RB in AR so that is always a knock-down-drag-out fight. So much simpler here on GR.

    Hi to anyone I missed!

Hi all! Sorry about you bad luck day Don :(

    Hi Karen B!

Fall is my favorite time of year too Janet :) Cool on the free firewood! Barbecue Chicken In Kaffir Lime Leaves is one of my all time favorite chicken recipes...which reminds me, I need to order some more kaffir lime leaves.

Yum on pierogis Tina, I love those to! Had to look up pastitsio (yes you spelled it right btw) and it looks SO GOOD! Kind of like a lasagna but not lasagna noodle but with any type of tube pasta or shells. Also looks like it has a tomato sauce and a bechamel sauce, yum!

Cool on having your previous home owners over for lunch Karen, sounds like it will be a nice day that day! Yum on the green pepper jelly, I'd love that. Wish we had your nice breeze here!

Tina's recipe for Pierogi Lasagna Ala Mr Food does look delicious Marie! Leftover spaghetti is always good :)

Hi Nanny, thanks for popping in :)

Had a doctor appr. This morning. Just a check up and to get some blood taken to make sure everything is going okay. Took forever, but now I am home and SO glad it's over. Michael is working nights so I have a busy evening on my hands. Bri is doing safety patrol now every day after school. She has bus duty, so she basically keeps the kids in line, helps them get to the right bus, etc. I pick her up everyday after she is done and rush home to meet Caiden getting off of his bus. Then homework, eat dinner and be at Softball practice by 6. Phew! Crossing fingers practice doesn't last for 2 ½ hours like normal Mondays, ugh, I hate getting back that late on a school night! Dinner is whatever is quickest, probably leftover for me and spaghettios or something for the kids. Hope everyone is having a great day!

You know I adore hot pepper jellies and I've always wanted to try making some. Jim's not as big a fan. :( Your recipe looks wonderful Karen! I don't know if it is legal or not to shoot eagles here but my first question would be why? Shaking head. They are gorgeous birds. I've never heard of them making off with anyone's pet. I've seen them eating fish and dead deer. And my Mom's neighbour who was good at tall tales used to tell one about her husband being carried off by one once. (He was still alive at the time so I guess it either flew him back or he landed safely) :) There's all sorts of things around here that would love to eat a small kitten or a chicken. Weasels spring first to mind. But it's natural. It's a food chain thing. :) End of bird love rant. LOL! :) Sorry to hear you guys are still having trouble over at AR.
Glad your Dr.'s appnt. went well Michelle. Very cute on Bri doing safety patrol. Good for her.
Got all my staining done. Just touch ups so it went quickly. Time to do up the dishes I never got cleaned this morning and prep dinner.
We have an Ottawa Senators pre-season Hockey game on this evening against the dreaded Toronto Maple Leafs. It's only pre-season and thus doesn't count but since we have been starved all summer long with no hockey it is reason for celebration. :) GO SENS GO!

Thanks Karen:) I bookmarked your pepper jelly recipe..I might get ambitious this Fall/Winter and make it..it sure looks pretty in the mason jars:)

Wow Michelle..I forgot what it was like to be as young as you and so busy:) Cool on Bri being a safety patrol monitor:)

Good gosh is it legal ANYWHERE to shoot eagles? I certainly hope not..sheesh.

So Janet, you guys did the staining of your decks as well:) Just one more thing checked off our "Things to do before Winter" list:) Rick did all of the work..he wanted to, so OK by me:-D

    Go SENS!

We have a fire dept meeting tonight. Supper was potato salad and deli ham.

LOL on the neighbor's hubby carried off by an eagle...I kind of tend to not fully believe it, since as you said is he is still here. I agree they are mostly scavengers. The great horned owl has been documented removing a pet dog from a fenced yard, kittens from a porch, and the like. I love animals, but any predators going after my critters will regret it.
-- meanwhile,Trouble and Mauser are safe, as they have not been outside yet.

The next barn cat we acquire will probably be a mama and kittens, they do better with protect give mama cat to teach them. Still no dog, but I am sure one will show up sooner or later. If we lived closer to Tina, I would have interested in an older pooch whose picture she shared on Facebook.

Hi Michelle, Karen B., and Marie!

    Hi everyone
Turkey meatloaf for dinner with broccoli and mashed potatoes.
Wow Don that was a bad day I think if I was you I would either head to the beach or go back to bed.
Saw a huge red tailed hawk the other day when Rachel was having her pictures taken for senior pictures. It was outside at a farm beautiful setting and the hawk was just above before we started. The photographer said it had swooped down and clipped on of the parents earlier in the week.
    Welcome to the new people!
