Ingredients

How to make it

  • Cook the lasagna noodles until soft, about 10 minutes.
  • Remove from boil and cool.
  • Cook potaotes with onion quarters and celery unitl potatoes are soft.
  • Drain potatoes and remove celery and onions. (I try to remove the celery and onions with a slotted spoon before I drain the potatoes, about 2 minutes before I think they'll be done.)
  • Mash potatoes with butter, NO MILK, and chives until smooth.
  • Fry diced onions in some butter until soft.
  • In a greased, or sprayed, lasagna pan, place one layer of noodles.
  • Smooth over with one layer of mashed potatoes.
  • "Sprinkle" on some sauteed onions.
  • Sprinkle on some shredded cheese.
  • Put a layer of sour cream
  • Repeat.
  • Last layer should be cheese, sour cream and bread crumbs.
  • Bake in a 350 degree oven for about 30-45 minutes, depending on your oven.
  • Top with additional sour cream if you'd like.

This recipe sounds perfect for my family. I love pierogies, but they are time consuming. Get out the sour cream and applesauce! LOL!

When did we all become authorities? Is cooking not about cooking? Everyone has their own ways even in one country one dish could be made several diffent ways. Each area has its own way of cooking. This sounds great. I am going to try it since I have not made perogies in a day or so with my babushka outfit. Anything that makes life easier. I do recommend eating kielbasa with it and make kraut with it or kapusta. I love kraut in my perogies too! Tons of sour cream. Happy posting and negative comments are not to be left on board. Lighten up people have manners and be happy. Do something to change the world instead of insulting anyone!

I have had this before but never with celery---I think it would taste weird. You never eat/cook celery with potato pierogie. Farmers cheese is your first choice for cheese. If you can't find that us dried cottage cheese. If you are not Polish and like cheddar you could use that ;-)

I am part polish too along with German and several other european nationalities. We should get together and do a day making perogies! LOL, how many will we eat though? I use to make my grandmom perogies often. Since going back to work. I don't. I make a casserole like this. But I am going to give this a try. Yum with sour cream. I serve Keilbasa and sourkraut on the side with it!
