From keni 14 years agoIngredients
- 1 1/2lbs lean ground meat(venison, lean beef, chicken or turkey) shopping list
- 28-30oz of your favorite pasta sauce jarred or homemade. I have one, here, if interested.Easy Marinara A Plenty shopping list
- 1 large onion, diced or chopped shopping list
- 2 bell peppers diced or chopped shopping list
- 3 cloves garlic shopping list
- 1T red wine vinegar shopping list
- 1/2 stick butter shopping list
- 2-3t garlic powder or fresh cloves, your choice shopping list
- kosher or sea salt and fresh ground black pepper shopping list
- sandwich buns(I used whole wheat...those make it healthy, right? ;) shopping list
- 1 cup Parmesan, Romano or asiago cheese, shredded shopping list
How to make it
- Combine meat, onion and bell pepper in large skillet. (I used cast iron)
- Saute together, breaking up meat well, until veggies start to soften, but you don't need to totally brown the meat. I let it go about 10 minutes.
- Add remaining ingredients other than butter, garlic powder and buns and simmer on medium heat, stirring occasionally, until mixture is thickened and meat is cooked.
- Meanwhile, melt butter in glass bowl in microwave.
- Add garlic powder and stir well.
- Brush garlic butter mixture on cut sides of all buns.
- Toast in oven at 450 for about 10 minutes, until lightly browned.
- Serve meat/tomato mixture on buns, sprinkle with cheese.
