This is a juicy burger. Original recipe was to fry this. I grill it. It originated from James Beard. It is delicious. Add flavorings you wish.

Ingredients
  • 2 pounds chopped beef chuck or round
  • 1 onion (grated finely, I dont always add)
  • 3 tablespoon heavy cream (I use more)
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • garlic, opptional

Directions
  1. Mix and BBQ. I use much more cream. This makes the meat very moist as you grill. When I started using this recipe I DID NOT TELL anyone I was using cream. Everyone was going for seconds and thirds. I thought if I told them I was using cream they would not like this. But seems like they are all using this recipe now. It is basically adding a fat mixture to the meat mixture to keep it from drying out. Don't be alarmed the meat color gets funky from adding the cream to the cold meat. OF course we added more! I think this is originally a James Beard recipe that he served on an english muffin and had pan fried. I grill this. This can be pan fried as I often do in the winter months.
  2. Enjoy.
  3. First time I tried this most of my guests ate 3 burgers each! That was a first for me.

This looks great and I think I will try it this weekend.
My little secret is, that I add cream or nonfat condensed milk to scrambled eggs. What a difference!
Thanks for this recipe! : )

Love James Beard recipes, but hadn't seen this one. Thanks for the post! Will try soon.

Original was only 1 tablespoon of whip cream. I love James Beard as well. But, I found in grilling the tablespoon of whip cream was not enough. Again, he did fry them instead of grilling. This is very good and juicy. I find chuck meat the best to use as well. I like to grind my own meat for burgers (lol, when I can!!)

Oh, yeah, this was the good stuff! I pan fried and used just the 1 tablespoon, and we just wished we could eat it slower - it was delicious.

Cream as in coffee creamer?

Sounds great.

Very tasty and moist. It doesn't hold together too well. Have to be very gentle turning the burger.

I never seemed to have difficulty. Who knows. I only know this is really tasty. James Beard made something great out of a few things. Everyone seems to like this recipe. I make it now and just add the cream! Points I always appreciate your comments! I hope you survived my sweet shoo-fly pie. I love it sweet and gooey!! Happy holiday!
