Ingredients

How to make it

  • When we have a small catch we usually will steam the crabs instead of boiling - this would simply mean you place the vinegar in the bottom of the pot and add 2 - 3 cups of water just to get a steam going - the vinegar helps the crab meat come out of the shell easier. Steam for approximately 27 minutes. If you where boiling you would just add all the indgredients to the pot adding enough water to cover the crabs- bring to a boil and through in the live crabs. Cook for 12 minutes, drain and allow to rest before devouring.

I love crabs. I've never done a crab boil, since I come from the land of steaming crabs but it looks good and I'll have to try it this summer.

Old Bay is a seasoning - made especially for seafood - you should be able to find it at any store - when boiling you need enough water to cover all the crabs and I have used this for shrimp - lobster and I am sure any live seafood would be great with it. Hope you enjoy.

I have a couple questions. First, how much water for the boil? You mention 2 - 3 for steaming. Second, what is "old bay?" Otherwise, I'm thinking of trying this. I'm from New England and honestly have never had much crab (or lobster for that matter) cooked in any form.
