These sound SO YUMMY!! Can anyone that has made them tell me if the nuts can be left out? I can't send nuts in my daughters lunch b/c of kids with nut alergies. 1 1/2 cups seems alot to leave out

I used 2 cups sugar, small heaping measurements of the spices, raisins and pecans. They were not sweet enough for me with 1 1/2 cup sugar.
I am going to try adding the chocolate chips with the 1 1/2 cup sugar the next time and maybe they will be sweet enough without the additional sugar.
