Melt in your mouth Sugar cookies

This is a great little sugar cookie - when the kids where little we used little cut outs in the center of the cookie would drop a lifesaver into the cutout before baking -
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar shopping list
- 1 cup butter or margarine shopping list
- 1 egg shopping list
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract shopping list
- 1 teaspoon almond extract shopping list
- 2 1/2 cups unsifted flour shopping list
- 1 teaspoon baking soda shopping list
- 1 teaspoon cream of tartar shopping list
- ICING: shopping list
- 2 cups powdered sugar shopping list
- 2 tablespoons butter or margarine shopping list
- 1 egg white shopping list
- pinch of salt shopping list
- 1 teaspoon almond extract shopping list
- food coloring and sprinkles (optional) shopping list
- or instead of doing the icing - before baking make a small holiday cutout in the center of your cookie (i.e. a star or christmas tree) and place one life saver in the cutout - shopping list
How to make it
- Combine all ingredients. Mix well. Chill dough for 2 hours. Roll to desired thickness and use favorite cookie cutters. Bake in 350 degree oven for 7-10 minutes. ICING: Combine all ingredients. It is best to ice the cookies while they are still warm.
- If you are doing the lifesaver candy in the center make sure you bake your cookies on parchment paper.
