Melt In Your Mouth Sugar Cookies Recipe

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

1 cup butter or margarine

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon almond extract

2 1/2 cups unsifted flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon cream of tartar

ICING:

2 cups powdered sugar

2 tablespoons butter or margarine

1 egg white

pinch of salt

1 teaspoon almond extract

food coloring and sprinkles (optional)

or instead of doing the icing - before baking make a small holiday cutout in the center of your cookie (i.e. a star or christmas tree) and place one life saver in the cutout -

Directions

Combine all ingredients. Mix well. Chill dough for 2 hours. Roll to desired thickness and use favorite cookie cutters. Bake in 350 degree oven for 7-10 minutes. ICING: Combine all ingredients. It is best to ice the cookies while they are still warm.

If you are doing the lifesaver candy in the center make sure you bake your cookies on parchment paper.
