Pasta Sauce That Cant Be Beat Recipe
You can make this as easy or difficult as you like depending on if you use homemade or jarred sauce

Ingredients
  • 2 jars Classico Traditional Sweet basil sauce (or your own sauce)
  • 1 carrot grated
  • 1 pt heavy cream
  • 1lb browned and drained italian sausage meat (I prefer hot)
  • 1 lb browned and drained ground beef
  • 1 bunch fresh basil torn into small bits

Directions
  1. If you are using jarred sauce add it to the pan with a dash of salt and pepper and adjust the seasoning to your families taste
  2. Add the finely grated carrot
  3. Stir in the pre-cooked sausage and beef
  4. Simmer for about 45- 50 minutes
  5. During the last 5 minutes add the heavy cream and the fresh basil
  6. Serve over pasta with a healthy amount of fresh grated parmesan cheese

I like the idea of the grated carrot, thanks.


I always grate in a carrot to reduce acidity with out sugar when I make my sauce homemade, I know the jarred stuffis loaded with sugar, but I still toss in the carrot to give it more of a homemade taste.


This sounds great! The carrot is a nice sneaky way to get extra veggies in and the kids won't even know it's in there. I have one who shuns all things healthy, but I bet he'd eat this.


The real Italian "sugo" is also made with the carrots. They use the "soffritto" which is finely diced celery, carrot and onion and fry that up before adding everything else ;) This sounds good... what exactly is Italian sausage meat?


Sorry about the 'sausage meat'. I get it from my butcher. It is just the sausage mixture with out the casing. If you can't get it that way, just buy the actual sausage and remove the casings.

Yep.. the carrot helps sweeten the sauce.. If your trying to hide it... grate.. that way they can't see it!
