Ingredients

How to make it

  • Preheat oven to 450F
  • Boil cauliflower in salted water until just tender, 10-15 minutes
  • Drain well in colander and place in a buttered baking dish
  • In a saucepan add the milk, butter, and flour and while whisking continuously heat until mixture is smooth, thickens, and comes to a boil
  • When mixture boils continue to cook and whisk for an additional two minutes
  • Remove from heat and add mustard powder, nutmeg, salt, pepper and roughly two thirds of the grated cheese, stirring until smooth
  • Pour sauce over cauliflower
  • Mix breadcrumbs with remaining cheese and sprinkle over the top
  • Bake 25 minutes until golden brown and bubbly
  • Serve immediately

    Really gourmet quality side dish. When I tasted the milk/cheese sauce prior to pouring over the cauliflower, I thought it was bland. I used the Tillamook as directed, doubled the mustard and nutmeg. Baked 20 min. then added smoked cheddar mixed with Panko breadcrumbs. Used half the butter and salt. Outstanding and very rich!

    Love cauliflower cheese I make it with broccoli too!
    sometimes I grate cheese mix it with mayonnaise, crushed garlic, nutmeg and grated onion! hmmmm

    the mayo makes it brown well

    Oh my this looks very delicious!! I love cauliflower & cheese, I buy those boxes from green giant..but I am sure this will be much better than store bought cauliflower and cheese. I can't wait to try this. Thanks for the great recipe!!

    this looks great! We always had this when I was growing up, though a plainer version with, as I recall a velveeta cheese sauce. I haven't made it in a long time but your recipe looks really better than ours and I will try it soon. Thanks!
