Fried apple pies are delicious and are real comfort food. My grandmother used to make these fried apple pies for my cousins and me. We would eat them as fast as she could pull them out of the frying pan. She complained, of course, but she never ra... More

So, so delicious. My grandmother always made them too, and after they were fried, she would "pile" them high on a large white platter. They didn't last long. The tradition lives on with me. And they never last long. Sometimes, I use apricots and peaches. Thanks for sharing about your grandmother and her fried pies! :)

Oh, wow Dude. There's a little lady just up the hill from me here that makes fried pies every year. Then she has a yard sale. She sells more pies than she does junk, lol! These are just the most wonderful, comforting things. Thanks for this one!

Great post Mike!! :)
My Aunt Violet used to make these.
Luckily for me my Uncle Bill was a Southerner from Knoxville.
A lot of great Southern recipes came from that side of the family.:)

Great recipe, Mike! My mother and grandmother both used to make these. Us kids couldn't wait to eat them and we'd burn the heck out of our mouths, but it was worth it - ha! Sometimes, if my mom doubled the batch and actually had any last for more than an hour, she'd make a light confectioners sugar glaze and drizzle it over the warm pies with a fork. Wow. I haven't had these pies in years...and just the thought of them brings back so many wonderful memories. Thanks for the post! =)

Man, to think I grew up on McDonald's fried apple pie - and worse ) thought they invented it!
Well I am glad I have learned something new...and like hollydays above... I too feel underprivileged for not growing up with these..or not having an auntie or grandma who made these - I must start a new tradition!
