How to make it

  • Soak wooden skewers in water for 20 minutes
  • About 3/4-1 inch from end of asparagus, push skewer through and push to other end of skewer.
  • Repeat with 5 more asparagus
  • Take another skewer and from the other end of the asparagus do the same thing with all
  • Now it should look like a raft
  • 6 asparagus and two skewers
  • Brush with olive oil
  • Season with salt and pepper and garlic powder if desired
  • Grill over medium heat flipping once until done

This is my absolute favorite way to make asparagus. Metal skewers work just fine, too!

Great tip! Now I won't loose any. Also I'll never forget the first time I used wooden skewers, I forgot to soak them....ugg splinter city!

Jmbelb, If you have trouble with them on the grill, you could always put them in a casserole dish and broil them in the oven, which is kind of like an upside-down grill. However, the skewer method is brilliant! Yay!

I love aspargus grilled. It is delicious. The raft thing looks so cute too! Guests are always impressed. I find I break a lot of asparagus stalks if I buy the super skinny ones. I recommend those with some width, but not too tough to pierce the stalk with the skewer. I also will drizzle these with a squeeze of lemon to brighten the flavor. Great post.

Thank you so much for this, had these once while eating out, they were fantastic. About how long does it take to grill them? Must make these, they were so good and still crunchy.
