Michigan Sauce For Hot Dogs Recipe
In Michigan we eat Coney Dogs, hot dogs (skins on) with a chili or meaty sauce topped with chopped onions and mustard. While living down south I made these for friends that had never heard of them before. Here is the sauce recipe.

Ingredients
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 Tbl. vegetable oil
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 3 6oz. cans of tomato paste
  • 3 6oz. cans of water
  • 3 Tbl. chili powder
  • 2 drops of hot pepper sauce
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 1 Tbl. dried oregano

Directions
  1. Cook onion in oil.
  2. Add beef and cook until lightly browned and crumbly, drain off drippings.
  3. Stir in tomato paste, water and seasonings. Mix well.
  4. Simmer for 3 hours, stirring and adding water as necessary.
  5. Serve over hot dogs with chopped onions and mustard.

I loved going to Rudy's, grew up in Michigan and when I go back to visit we always have to stop and eat. Love this post I knew there was something I was missing in my sauce it is the oregano. Will try this recipe soon.

Im originally from Royal Oak and remember going to the Coney Island place on Woodward Avenue. Haven't had one since I was a kid - must try yours!
