OMG- I've only ever eaten pieroggis at restaurants (usually at one of my favourite restaurants here in Melbourne called "Borsch, Vodka and Tears"- and now I can give it a go myself! My hubby will be so excited. I'll let you know how I go!

These are great! My grandmother made these whenever I came to visit as a child. Potato were my favorite but she also made them with sauerkraut filling and would always saute onions in butter and then lightly sauteed the boiled dumplings in the onion and butter just before serving with sour cream. OMG it doesn't get any more comforting(and fattening) than that! Thanks so much for the post.

I too love pierogies! This looks like a good recipe - I would suggest that you try using farmer cheese for the filling in place of potato and cheddar cheese. Sauerkraut is still our family favorite! Great comfort food. Thanks for the recipe!

I've never had fresh pirogies (child of the 90's- freezer food to the end) but I can't wait to try them! We used to eat our frozen pirogies with tamari soy sauce, so that might go good for those of us who don't like sour cream. Looking forward to a yummy dish thanks to you!

When I make perogies I serve with bacon fried and chopped, then fry onions in the bacon fat, serve on top then add the sour cream! Also if you fill the perogie dough with fruit such as apple or cherry pie filling, you can deep fry them and serve with whipped cream for dessert or with coffee for afternoon snack!

When I make mine, I add cooked bulk hot sausage to the potato mixture. It's wonderful! Make sure you seal them real well (I use a fork) so they don't leak when you boil them.
