Baby Alligator Cream Cakes Recipe
Add Step-by-Step Photos

An easy one and so fun to make with kids!! I have to be honest. It was meant to be a Butterfly cupcake. I really don’t know how it turned into an alligator…loll!! If you have any suggestion what does it look like, please let me know.

Ingredients
  • 1 Package Devil’s food cake mix.
  • Lemon butter cream icing:
  • 100 g/3 ½ oz butter, softened
  • 225g/8 oz icing sugar
  • Grated rind of ½ lemon
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • Enough chocolate chips for the baby Alligators to begin their first steps.

Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 375F.
  2. Prepare 2 (24 muffins tray) with muffin cups or silicon cups.
  3. Make cake as directed, let cool completely.
  4. Lemon butter cream:
  5. Beat butter until fluffy, beat in the icing sugar gradually. Beat in the lemon rind and gradually beat in the lemon juice.
  6. Assembling:
  7. Cut the top off each cake, using a serrated knife and trim edge with a cookie cutter. Cut each top in half. Using a sharp knife, make small cuts in the outer edge of each half to make a serrated look.
  8. Pipe the butter cream icing over the cut surface of each cake and push the 2 cut pieces of cake top into the icing to form sides of a shell. Carefully, insert two chocolate chips in the end of the middle line piped cream to form the eyes.

These are great, and fun!! What kid (and adult) wouldn't enjoy them. :) Thanks for another wonderful post. You are so food savy.

Hi, Ahmed, if I can help, to look like butterflies only cut in half and put them like you just did, an for baby Aligators, just with two pieces of both sides serrated pieces of cake placed one following the other so that they go out of the cake, and with the cute little eyes you piped would be ok.
Fun post thank you!

And to think I fell for it, wondering if there truly was alligator in your cupcakes. dang!
