This is an old, old Southern recipe and is lightning fast, but very delicious. It's refreshig and a change of pace. It's also one of those recipes that got lost in time, but needs reviving.

Did your momma know my momma? My mom made almost the same salad except she would take a cube of cream cheese roll it in chopped peanuts and put in the hole of the pear half and top with dressing made with mayonnaise and some of the nectar from the canned pear tin. It was served on iceberg and it was a standard side on pot roast night. Thanks for reviving the memory!

This was the only way they could get me to eat any mayonnaise as a child. You wouldn't think something so easy would taste so good! One of my forever favorites.

My Mama made hers with pineapple rings on lettuce, with a chunk of cream cheese in the hole and a dab of mayo on the side. Totally 1950s. I loved it.

This is "simply" delicious....simple. A cold pear is high on my taste list!

This is the only thing my dad would ever "cook". Sometimes he would use cottage cheese instead of mayo. Brings back memories of being a kid in Atlanta...

My staff think I am crazy when I make this for a snack for myself at lunch. I learned how to make it from the Quacker lady's at my church when my family lived in Up state Michigan.

Reminds me of my grandmother's recipe only she mixed peanut butter and mayo instead of cheese and mayo. That was a long time ago!

Brings back such great memories of a simpler time. as some of the others, my mom also made this with a pineapple ring instead of pear half.
